On a side note, I was fairly close to the floor and love the sounds of the game sometimes. One of the players from NH made a short bankshot and proceeded to jaw at the Mason kid as he backpedaled down the floor then pounded his chest and saluted the stands. And as the bball gods would have it, he turned it over the next 2 trips and went scoreless for about 5 minutes. I love when that happens.

In a 2-point win in OT, pretty much everyone that plays contributes to the win.

 

Setty with an off night, but some huge points and boards late.

 

Gilbert with an off night from the field, but handled the ball 80 percent of the time and knew what was available at game's end.

 

Justin Lang with another nice night, count on him for at least one circus shot a game, and a bulldog on defense.

 

Brad Lang was the quickest player on the court; at least in the first half.

 

Tyler Black and Neal Pawsat, still rounding into basketball shape, with big minutes.

 

And what can you say about Rheuben Bluford. The earlier injuries to Pawsat and Black may have been a blessing in disguise as it gave the big man, who seems to play way above 6'5", a chance to blossom. This year's Royals don't get to Rupp, nor do they advance, without #42.

I have a question, why is it that everytime a player in that game would go catapulting into the camerafolk, they chose the ladies?:idunno:

By the way, a belated congratulations to North Hardin. I thought that they would wilt under pressure, but they put themselves in a position to win. Heard their coach at halftime of the KCC-Butler game; I don't know him from Adam but he seemed like a nice guy.

This is one 10th Region fan who was not at all surprised by how close the game was. This ain't your older brother's Royals; a nice team with a lot of heart but no Mr. Basketball to carry the whole group. Mason County won't blow anybody out, and they'll hang with most teams.

I'll try to catch you tomorrow night. Again, I was impressed by the poise NH showed after falling way behind early; although the Royals have let an awful lot of teams back in ballgames this season.

 

As it got down to crunch time at the end of regulation, the guy sitting next to me asked who our go-to guy was. I was going to go into the whole "we don't really have A GUY this year" routine, but I wound up telling him that 10 or 32 (Gilbert or J. Lang) would take the shots.

 

The game-winner in OT was one of the few times that milking the clock has worked for Mason County this season.

It was number 32 and he had something to say or do to his defender every time he scored. He scored NH's first 4 points I think and I saw him jaw after his first 2 points to the defender and when he scored again he waved his hand at the defender(I think it was Gilbert) as if to say he was garbage. He didn't score again until he saluted the crowd or Mason County bench depending on your vantage point. Looked like he was saluting the Mason County bench from section 35.

 

The bball gods are always watching. They see you when you think they aren't watching......

Thought I'd bring some of this over here from the predictions thread, just for laughs.

 

As I said, the 5th Region is pretty weak -- it was a two-horse race all year -- but that doesn't mean NH is.

 

The question some of you might need to be asking is how tough, really, is the 10th? Like the folks in the 9th, sometimes you 10th Region folks engage in an awful lot of group-think because of your numbers on BGP.

 

Good luck to Mason Co. They have a very good team, and this should serve them well in the immediate future. :thumb:

Being a 10th region fan I know all about Mason Co. Bluford has impressed me this year. Mason Co lost Barner, he transfered back to Bryan Station, but then Bluford returned to the team this year and has made a big impact for the Royals.

 

Mason should have won by 10 or more points. Game score surprised me.

Bluford was the man in the middle! Mason plays should advance to Saturday morning.

This thread is about Mason and North Hardin. This will serve as the only warning. Anyone that crosses that line will be on the outside looking in.

Congrats Mason County - as usual, you're representing your region well.

I saw a stat I believe in the Hardin County newspaper that Mason County and North Hardin have around the same number of appearances at the Sweet 16. Even with that even number, this stat was pretty amazing.
