All time Reds Busts of Players

Featured Replies

Added the of Players so we don't get any Morganna references.:p

Okay, we have the thread on greatest Reds but who were the biggest busts?

3B Brandon Larson

OF Paul Householder

SP Brandon Claussen

I am only 21 so I have a limited choice, but with all the hypea around both my list has to start with Brandon Larson.

Brandon Claussen, wow.

Larson has to be the #1 choice. Austin Kearns was a bust as well.

In recent memory, I'd also add Gookie Dawkins & Ryan Wagner.

Paul Householder

Jeff Jones

Pat Pacillo

Scott Scudder

Bruce Bereyni

Frank Pastore

Paul Hoseholder

Duanne Walker

Nick Esasky

Just a few

Pretty much any pitcher drafted in the last 10 years, with Bailey pending?

The Reds gave up Frank Robinson as the Management felt he was getting old, so old in fact that he won the triple crown a year later in the AL. And what outstanding player did the Reds get in return?

The biggest bust in the Red history Milt Papas

Do they have to have come through the farm system? If not, Eric Milton has taken years off my life.

Kirk Stillwell. They almost traded Barry Larkin to Keep stillwell At S.S Also Kal Daniels

Would Roberto Kelly be considered a bust? We got him in the trade with the Yankees for Paul O'Neil.

Brandon Claussen, wow.

Given what was expected of Kearns and what he ended up producing, he has to rank pretty high in the "bust" category. My brother had a friend that was close friends with Kearns who said that Mr. Kearns very much enjoyed his liquor and frequently played with a hangover.

Ancient history, but BY FAR, the biggest bust was Amos Rusie.

Reds traded Christy Mathewson, who went on to win 352 games before returning to the Reds sixteen years later to win one game for Cincinnati, for Rusie, who went 0-1 for Cincinnati.

Many like to talk about the Robinson-Pappas trade, and rightly so, but this deal, made in 1900, may have been the worst of all time for ANY team. Only Babe Ruth for cash rivals it.

PS - read deep into the story and find that the Reds had a shot at The Babe, but missed out.
