First ever female high school head football coach

Featured Replies

If a school in KY had a female coach people would laugh at them, and players wouldn't go out for the team or would transfer IMO.
Which explains why all the players on the D.C. team are supporting her. They're just so much different than us.

If we didn't already have a great coach, and she met the qualifications, I, and nearly everyone asociated with the team and the school would welcome her with open arms.

So women can't comprehend hard work. Well, I think we'll just let that one speak for itself. :ohbrother:

Football already is an actual sport for women--must be another sign of the 2012 apocolypse!

To the first part, I highly doubt that.

For the bolded, I worded that wrong. What I meant was that women do not understand the work it takes to have a good football team, and not that women don't know how to work. That would be a ridiculous statement as most women I know work just as hard or hard than most guys I know.

I think a good coach knows the grind of the game and that's not something you can get from studying a playbook or watching tape. You have to have some experience getting down and dirty on the field. Like I said, I'm not sold that the women's league's do that because the girls do not have the background experience to elevate those leagues above very simplistic football.

As for a sport for women, you mean HS all around the country have teams? Where does UK's women's football team rank in the country? Those women's leagues have the legitimacy, IMO, of a pro curling league in the US. C'mon man, just because it's semi-pro doesn't mean that it's a big deal. I would venture to guess that not 5 members on here have ever watched a women's pro league game or could name a single team without the aid of wikipedia. Like I said it's about like being a cheerleader for the Cavs or Bengals.....wow.

Do you honestly think the school would allow for anything negative to be put to print? It's not like the pros and college where the kids get interviewed all day or by all kinds of people. But, I'm sure you are in constant contact with her team....

Do you think the media wants to put anything negative out there yet? They will if she loses, but until they play they want it to be a feel good story.

If she does well I will congratulate her and say I was wrong in this case. If she sucks will you guys do the same? No, there will be all kinds of excuses and saying that you can't judge by one case or instance.

Got to admire your spunk and won't quit tenacity Catsx3. Might not agree with you, but love the fight in you. It's something I'd think a head football coach (even a female one:D) would love to see in his (her) players. :thumb:

I said I was done about 10 post ago but I am now....

As for Natalie Randolph, after reading alot about her I do like her and hope she succeeds. I just don't think she will. (Nice looking lady too BTW).

You obviously didn't watch the video, showing her surrounded by her enthusiastic players. You can't fake that.

Next time you say women's football isn't the real game, I hope you're standing at the fifty yard line of a women's football game. I have a feeling we'd hear a different tune.

I was hoping you would weigh in on this. :thumb:

It's a sport but it's hardly comparable to high level football.

For the record I would play in a women's football game with no pads or helmet on so I don't expect my tune would be any different. Obviously there is a different level of athleticism and strength between men and women so I don't really see your point. Maybe just looking for a cheap laugh?....

Could it be because she's hot?:D

Just kidding, I just saw that video. Maybe she will be able to make it. I will remain skeptical though.:thumb:

Cats,

I am trying hard to understand your point (and the points of the others against a woman coach), but when several facts are presented, the objections don't outweigh them.

You don't want to turn this into a woman's rights issue, but the fact that there are people who don't think a woman, albeit rare, should be a head coach of a football team pretty much pushes it to that level. There's no job in the country that should be granted based upon the gender of an individual, if the individuals in question are equally as qualified for the job, and one presents him/herself as meeting the criteria set forth in the hiring process.

I can't buy any argument by anyone on anything that includes "it's a man's job", if it's never been tried by a woman. Even if Coach Rudolph isn't successful, I don't think that should be the gauge for the next woman that comes along looking to be hired as a head football coach.

I simply can't buy any argument that is based on gender.

I don't think ANY woman can do it, just as I don't think ANY man can do it.

But, I think the right PERSON should have the opportunity, whether male of female, to achieve their goals, and that they should be judged on the merits of their performance, without regard to their gender.

If she isn't successful, I doubt it has anything to do with being female, and everything to do with learning.

It's a sport but it's hardly comparable to high level football.

Does the fact that it takes a different level to be a wide receiver than to be a linebacker mean that a wide receiver will be a better coach than a linebacker?

Whether you feel the "level" of football is the same in playing the game is irrelevant to the issue of coaching. I know of NO head coach that's played EVERY position in football. There are male coaches who've NEVER played football, or were 2nd or 3rd stringers, for the love of Pete!

Good luck, by the way, playing without pads against a women's team. When it's all scheduled, let me know. I want to watch. :D

I did play, but have not coached football.

And I understand the thread is about football, but why should we go ahead and declare someone unfit for a position if there has never been one person do it? I'm not sure if she will succeed or not; hopefully she will. But to guarantee failure to someone who at least seems qualified without at least giving it a shot seems a little unfair.

I never guaranteed her unfit or or that she would fail. It will be cool if she succeeds. How will that be measured? By wins? Unfortunately she will probably be judged by W/L like all other coaches.

My thoughts of women are much more respectful. Guess I'm a bit old fashioned. Personally, I like to see women happy, smiling and lookin' pretty, not coaching a football team. My point was, I definately would not want a woman to see or hear some of the things I have around football. I can't share those things on this forum, but, I believe they were an important part of our success. How bout' you UK9?

Fact is, those boys will have to restrict some things they do and say, if they respect women at all. Football can be a mean sport to say the least!

However, I do offer her good luck.

Here's a thought:

What do we always teach our kids? What do coaches always say? That there's nothing that can't be accomplished if you put your mind to it? Maybe this woman will be an inspiration to boys who think they can't overcome certain obstacles, a tough team, grades, a bad home life. Maybe they'll look at this woman and say, "Hey! If this woman can be a football head coach, I can get that B, I can make it through this."
