Well my tithe money gave seed money for your football field. And I have no problem with that. I am not saying that it is something you should be ashamed of at all you are taking that the exact wrong way. I am saying that without having to play Southern, Seneca, Ballard, and others you could be going to play more Males, Warren Centrals (IND), Lexington Catholics, Highlands, Elders, MBA's and others and I am saying that you have the resources to do it. You should be proud of that, not snipeing at me that we should have to pay for your travel.

It's interesting that you want to keep one foot on each side of the fence, saying you don't support the proposal, but do support the school's endorsement of it. That's classic double-speak. And then strategically dart a little comment about Manual's own division in the Science Fair to try and a make a point, when you know full well that athletic competitions and science fairs are not apples to apples.

 

Interesting that way back in the political debates during the election, you jabbed at me telling me that an Independent is for people who [sic]are indecisive and/or college students[sic], yet now you are displaying exactly the attributes you so graciously assigned to me. The fact of the matter is, this IS an issue to take a stand upon. Maybe you can't see it; again, your school has absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain from what's proposed. I would respect your arguments, though, if you would just take the side of the public schools and drop the "I don't support the proposal, but I support my school's endorsement of it". Your school has absolutely nothing to lose in this. Once it's done, it's done, and there's no going back for the private schools. Maybe one day, there will be some sort of attack on academia, and you'll understand a little better. Who knows. Maybe you'll just waltz your way to a perennial #2 in the state in football, and be content with that. Frankly, once the result is known, and I found out what the Board of Control does, I'm done with this topic forever. I've fought the "good" fight...I've done all I can do. Unfortunately there are too many short-sighted, biased people who expect that everything be 100% equal across the board for everyone. At the point that those who supported these proposals realize that there is still a heck of a lot of disparity statewide and then try to figure out what else can be done...I'll just watch and laugh.

I am not against the private schools I think that they are a boon to the community in many ways, they take away from the local tax burden, they provide competition at all levels to raise the bar for the public schools. And they allow for a Christ centered education option.

They will be important too. I think that we are just at the beginning of the fight. I plan to make every polititian aware that there will be a price to be paid for this. I'll begin with the Jefferson County school board and move on to the legislature.

I think that really depends on how the Public Schools do on the field in the next few years. I don't think it is right, just like I don't think it is right the way they go after the Magnet schools come CATS test scoring time. But that is the way it is, saddly.

I hope you aren't accusing ram95, one of THE most intellectually honest people that I have ever met in my life, of being dishonest on his opinion. Not just because I don't think you should, I'd just hope you'd have a better argument.

Personally, I'll think the entire "R" word will have more merit when schools are complaining about losing Merit Sholars and Governor's Scholars. I mean, that is what educational institutions are about, right?

 

 

You've got it right, but $3,000,000 for a football field when Catholic schools are closing? I know it's private donations.

 

hicknick, if you are going to post a fact, why not post the entire fact. In the last 12 years or so, Trinity has invested over 10 MILLION DOLLARS in upgrading its academic facilities. Only when this was complete, did Trinity decide to spend a little under 2.5 million to replace a stadium that was so old there were safety concerns and a lawsuit or two over injuries. I would say that is a school which as it priorities well in place.

But I do think that it's a whole lot easier to say stuff like don't worry, this won't happen, etc etc when the reality is that if it does happen you won't be affected or that you may even benefit.
