To all of the Manual posters on this board: If you are against these proposals, good. I don't believe that I have called you any names. If I have, my apologies. I would suggest that you use whatever influence you have as distinguished alumni to attempt to inform Dr. Keepers of the real situation regarding financial aid in private high schools. "The time is past when good men may be silent." I have not had anything good to say about your principal because she is a misinformed know nothing, at least on this issue. She may be good to her dog and an otherwise fine person but to the extent that she represents duPont Manual High School, her actions bring discredit on the school.

 

As far as taking this as personal, it is. When a kid enrolls at Trinity, they become part of the family, my family. Come after my family and it is personal.

To be completely honest I don't care. As a fellow Trinity supporter has pointed out Keepers has been very vocal in her support for Prop 20 and she has done so by her choice so any criticism she gets she has in effect brought on herself. You can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen. Maybe I was overboard calling her inhuman but she is in ill informed hypocrite. Her position as the principal of the best academic school in Jefferson County has come because of an advantage that was granted Manual in the placement of outstanding students. For anyone from Manual to ignore that fact is the same as what Trinity and X people are accused of when they won't admit that numbers are an advantage for them. The fact that she now wants "fairness" is so hypocritical it is almost laughable.

 

I will also echo a question by my fellow Trinity supporter. Have any of the Manual fans that are opposed to this idiocy expressed their opinions to Keepers?

We all agree Manual draws from the entire county, that is not the problem!!!! Manual's Principal has not been saying Trinity couldn't take students from all over Jefferson County! Mrs.Keepers never said that the problem was that you drew those students, that would be hypocritical, the problem is that Mrs. Keepers thinks that a same sex private school has advantages that her school can't compete with. I disagree with her, but you are trying to say that she is saying that it is the recruiting area that is the problem, when in fact that is not what she has been talking about, she has been citeing issues of financial aid for athletes, facilities, numbers and other intangiles such as a winning tradition that seem to draw large numbers of football players to those schools. Again I agree with you she is wrong that schools like Manual can't compete with Trinity. But she is right that schools like Atherton could never compete with St. X or Iroquois could not compete with Trinity. Ballard, Seneca, Fern Creek and Eastern could in theory but not in practice. Male is the only public school that does on any consistant basis, and Manual is showing signs but has not gotten over the hump. Anyway we agree that prop 20 is not what we want as fans, but I am not going to tell her how to run her school. I told Joe Nichols that I was against prop 20, but I also told him that I stand behind him as a man and our coach. What do you expect from me as a fan? Go in and throw a hissy fit because I don't agree with a bit of sports legislation? If the prop 20 said that the KHSAA was going to kick out Private schools, stop allowing them the ability to get insurance and refs and that they could never ever play each other again then maybe I would be more vocal, but as it stands it is just watering down a playoff system already watered down by the class system anyway.

I suspect it's easier for you to be in your position than it is to be in ours. I wonder how vehement you'd be in a position such as the private schools face, and there was simply nothing you could do but wait for the outcome, knowing that the representation for your position is the minority. I wonder if you'd be ( or will you be) more upset if/when the next proposal down the line is to eliminate the open enrollment school districts, or Louisville "public/private" schools. How vocal in your outrage would you be if there was a move to eliminate open enrollment at all JCPS...including Manual? I just wonder if you have any idea what we're really upset about.

The publics want us in our "own" state championship game, and they in theirs. So, then you have two state champions, with no real "state" champion.

BUT, they are still allowed to compete for the national title, big difference. In fact isn't this better for Manual because they are now assured of a spot in the national competition much like it used to be when Jefferson County was assured one team in the 4A championship game? At one time I was a supporter of the so called "super district" that was floated about in Jefferson County several years ago. Basically all schools that had open enrollment would have been placed in one district. I could grudgingly accept that type of arrangement now if it would allow our kids to continue to compete in state championships against all schools.
