North is big and athletic. They will attack the glass relentlessly. But if James Berry has his shot working, NH becomes a lot better. Berry is a big guard who can shoot, and also attacks the boards. Also tough for the Trojans is Nigel Phelps, a big, rebounding guard. Both were regular double-double guys in the regionals.

Yeah, it's just a matter of how smart they play. This NH team seems a lot more disciplined than some of the others I've seen. I can't imagine too many other teams will be able to match them on the glass.

I am very interested in seeing some of the names and faces from Newport. With the huge statement win over a very good Holmes team, could make for a fun and interesting run by the wildcats.

 

If there's a better leaper in the Sweet 16 than Newport's Luther then that player must be able to reach the top of the backboard. Enjoy his hops in pre-game.

The entire Christain COunty team will be exciting to watch and to keep up with! Anthony Hickey is lightening quick and Shaquill Wilson is a very savy player along with Donovan Kates, Kevontae Lewis, Bubba Tandy and many more! each of these guys are Juniors as well! Now that Holmes will not be their first round opponent they may surprise a few teams!

There are so many players a good part of the state will be introduced to. This is Ballard and Scott Co's first Sweet 16 trips since 07 so none of those guys played in the Sweet 16 I don't think. Also, you have Newport with a couple of great players. Then there is Fant and Shanklin from Warren Central. Most people have never saw those guys. I believe this shapes up for a very exciting Sweet 16!

Ballard has several leapers with Chiles, Jones, and Means just to name a few. Scott Co. has Jackson and Guyn that get up really well. Also, Butler has some guys that while not very tall can get up.

Another player to watch is Austin Flannery from Scott Co.

 

He hasn't received the hype of the other starters(Euton, Guyn, Jackson) but has averaged double figures this year and has expanded his game from the spot up shooter that he was at Boone Co. He's also increased his athleticism allowing him to defend well. He is one of the main reasons that Scott Co is starting to reach their full potential!

I agree! His family moving to Scott County for work was the best thing that could have happened to him from at least from a basketball standpoint. Otherwise, I don't think he would have had near the same opportunities as a Boone County player:

 

Scott won the district and region.

He is having a great year and has been a big part of their success as a starter.

Scott Co. is in the state tournament.

Flannery has a scholarship offer to play at the next level.

Agree. Mason County's 2 Mr. Basketballs both played football. Lofton was an all-state WR as a senior; Miller played through his junior year.

 

On this year's squad, Pawsat is the starting QB, Black is a starting DE/TE, Gilbert is a starting WR/PK, Harris is a starting TB/LB (also plays golf and runs track), B. Lang is a starting WR/DB (signed to play at Pikeville this week) and also runs track; I may be missing someone else.

 

Mason County isn't a big enough school to insist that athletes choose one sport only to ensure team success. I also applaud schools that allow teenagers to participate in whatever sports they enjoy.

Up and comer! Lexington Christian lost out on a true player when they didn't use his services on the JV team his freshman year. Guess they didn't wanna ruffel any feathers of the kids/parents that had been there before him. Their loss is Scott Counties gain.

...referee James Pouncey from the 9th. James is an excellent referee and a good guy. He is a current AAU youth coach and former Holmes player. James lets the players play and the coaches coach. He keeps control of the game but does not lose sight of the fact that the players (not the refs) are the main attraction.

 

Guess they didn't specify who we will see.

Luther will impress all of you with his leaping ability. Kid flat out gets up there. You thought Henderson of Holmes could get up a few years ago? Wait til you see Luther.

 

Foster is just an all around player. Great body control, stops on a dime when driving the lane, and has the ability to take over at both ends of the floor. Just a great athlete. His midrange game will impress a lot of you.
