Highland's Spring Football

Featured Replies

It look to me that Cam Dierig has inspired Coach Weinrich to "go small" on the D-Line this year. After the way Cam ate up that X boy last year, maybe the Bird's have found that light is right? QB's did a lot of scrambling...O-line needs to shape up (they've got ALL summer). Thought "Moose" McCoy looked really good at QB...not to take anything away from #8, he's still the bell cow! Secondary looks tight!! Birds seem to be playing eleven LB's!!

Maybe we'll see more of that crazy defense where nobody's on the line at the snap? That was a lot of fun to watch.

I call it the "weave". :D

How have next year's sophomores been doing this spring? It sounds like McCoy is getting some reps at QB, how about other rising sophomores? Is Jac Collinsworth participating in spring football?

Also, who is practicing at RB for HHS?

JC is sidelined and we dont go into specifics on injuries at Highlands if you didnt know that already. McCoy is the obvious Soph standout. Others are emerging and learning but nobody really jumps off the charts right now.

As far as 1st group RB's go, 100% of plays involve Sr RB Corey Compton so far this spring with the combination of others, such as Bishop, Streeter and True. A very physical running attack if I must say. :thumb:20n10

Who is Bishop... I haven't heard much about him. Also, Does Streeter have a younger brother who's at HHS? If so, what grade will he be next year?

Sr Ethan Bishop, sat out last yr. Very strong and fast RB. Probably his best asset is his blocking. And we all know that Dale loves his backs that will block. Streeter has a brother that is a Soph to be and will be a good one some day, he will get some time on JV to show his stuff. Highlands will be led by Seniors this yr with some key players being underclassmen but I doubt there will be many Soph contributing on O & D this yr. But with the new team concept carried over from last yr (which wont be disclosed on here) the Birds will be fun to watch. :thumb: 20n10

WOW! You are full of secrets today.

Other than Bishop, have there been any HHS kids who have played in spring football who were not playing football last year?

Also, is spring football now concluded for HHS this year? When did/will it end?

3 more next week since they haven't been going every day the past two weeks.

I heard that Kevin Duenas will be returning as well for his Sr year. He is very fast and will probably be a deep threat and awesome kickoff returner.

McCoy will be ready to step into the starting QB position if anything happens to Towles.

Last spring scrimmage today... 20n10!

Is Bruns going to run or catch any balls? How tall is McCoy?

I have witnessed all 10 spring practices and its my opinion that HHS will have a very competetive team but I dont think that they are as strong as the 2009 team. The reason is that last year Towles was put in the QB position with a great supporting group of players and he responded by doing a great job. This year will be a good test for him. The offensive line has only 2 experienced players from the 2009 team and that leaves some question marks on who will step up and do the job.

The defense will again will be very strong both at the defensive back positions and a very fast and aggresive group of linebackers. There will be many new faces on the defensive line but their performance in spring ball has been very good.

The running backs performance will somewhat be determined by the development of the offensive line. There is 4 or 5 backs that will get the bulk of the carries. (Compton, Streeter, True and Bishop)

The recieving core of Gold, Gall, Sheehan will be very good.

In summary this team has a good chance again to get to the state finals but

it will not be easy and I dont think they will go undefeated.

No worries on the O-Line. The 07 and 08 teams both only had one returning starter, and wound up being exceptional units in both state title seasons. Coach Turner just flat out gets it done year in and year out.:thumb:

So, did HHS have a total of 10 practices? How many scrimmages did they have?
