I've got an old chin strap that Bird Hustle gave back to me a couple of years ago that I can donate to the "relics" section of the room.

 

Seriously. When I was a senior and we won state, Bird Hustle was a young laddy. After the game, as was the custom back then, the young kids would ask for players chin straps after big wins. I must have given mine to Bird Hustle. A couple of years ago, he comes up to me and hands it to me. I ask him why is he giving me an old chin strap. He tells me the story of how I gave it to him back in 75 after the state game. I'd completely forgotten. What makes me feel really old is that Bird Hustle's youngest is graduating from Highlands this year! Yikes.

 

Maybe, after all these years, he thought you needed the extra support for all your "chins"?? :laugh: You should be offended if he gives you your old "girdle"!!:jump: I get a kick out of the announcement to "stay off the field" when the game ends. WE used to STORM the field to get lucky enough to get a chin strap...of course back then, the little league helmets had PLASTIC chin straps. So getting that Riddell strap was a real coup!!

Patrick Towles and Donavan McCoy are getting all the reps at quarterback.

Brendan Sullinvan was back in equipment today after a brief absence due to some housekeeping issues. With him and Luke Dressman at the LB spots today and the two physical cornerbacks the Birds looked nasty today. The defense looks solid and the offense is not lookin to shabby either. Everyone stays healthy and the Birds will be tough to score on. They will get their points on the other side of the ball with the deep talent and special teams this yr will be both pivotal and a defiinte scoring threat with the talent returning kicks. Looking pretty good. 20n10

That's good to hear. We've seen Brendan and his Dad at church over the past few months. Wish nothing but the best for him. I look for him and Austin Abner to be the leaders of that swarming HHS Defense this year.:thumb:

It look to me that Cam Dierig has inspired Coach Weinrich to "go small" on the D-Line this year. After the way Cam ate up that X boy last year, maybe the Bird's have found that light is right? QB's did a lot of scrambling...O-line needs to shape up (they've got ALL summer). Thought "Moose" McCoy looked really good at QB...not to take anything away from #8, he's still the bell cow! Secondary looks tight!! Birds seem to be playing eleven LB's!!
