Newport 9-1 in their last 10 but losers to a hot NCC team on Saturday night square off against a tough defensive team in Ryle 7-3 in their last 10. Does the hot and cold offense of Newport withstand the defensive pressure of Ryle and move on to face the winner of St/ Henry vs Covington Catholic or will Ryle move on in their quest to get back to state, a feat they accomplished once in their short history back in 2001/02?

I haven't seen the Cats play but I know they are very athletic. From what I saw of Ryle, one game, so not a huge sample, but they flat out get in your grill on defense. I would love to see the Cats continue their nice season but I think the Raiders physical style will pose problems. McLeish and Stauffer are a good inside outside combination and you have to believe they are feeling pretty good after winning the 33rd. Newport must have amnesia, and forget about the "good" press cippings and the "bad" loss against NCC.

Ryle 58

Newport 48

Ryle's D will be the difference.

A closely called game could greatly affect this outcome if the wrong people for either side were to get into foul trouble.

One thing you will NOT see after this game is a big boxscore. Neither team goes very deep.

Newport should win this but if they let them play maybe not, Newcath was way tougher Saturday. The ref's let them play but Newport did not push and shove back.

Trust me. Newport wants officials that call it tight because Ryle is extremely aggressive defensively.

GO CATS....Shock da' WORLD!!!

Too close to call. On one hand Ryle has played very well lately, on the other Newport has been more consistant. Should be a fun game to watch.

Gotta take the Wildcats in this one!

I will be blogging live updates from the game at press row.

Should be a good game and if Newport can shoot the ball well and get to the rim they will win this one. If Ryle slows them down and holds them to 1 shot on each trip down the floor then they will get the victory.

Once again i agree with your insight Newport must rebound way better than they did Saturday. They have to get some offensive boards.

I really don't think Newport has enough left in the tank. I understand Ryle is not very deep either, but their style of ball is completely different than Newport. Those legs get pretty heavy as the season goes on. I look for Ryle to pick Newport apart with their half court offense. I'll take Ryle 53-44.

I'll be there right next to you doing live scoring updates for nkysports.com.

I agree with the assessment though. Newport has to attack the rim if they want to win this game. If they settle for one shot possessions, Ryle will capitalize at the other end as they are physical enough to give the Cats some problems.

McLeish v Foster should be a dandy to watch.

In the end, I like Ryle's size and defense in this match up.

Raiders by 5-10.
