Hansbrough was brutal at crucial times for ND. Missed 2 FT's in regulation that would have won it. Spin move charge in 1st OT cost them a possession. Pass to the open cameraman under the goal in the 2nd OT.

After watching last nights game, I see why pitino has gone to mostly zone. They cannot guard at all man to man. Was it just me or was ND just driving around them in the OT's with ease. Maybe it was Pitino's game plan Im not sure, but louisville has no clue about weakside help. ND would pass on the wing cut through and go out the other side. Louisville Defender would chase all the way to the corner, and The ND player would drive to the basket with ease. Either scored or got fouled. Louisville struggles against anyone who can attack their Zone and force them to play man. St. Johns and Seton hall both forced Louisville out of their Zone and got wins.

 

There's no question Louisville is a very weak defensive team. It got even weaker, of course, when Preston fouled out. The length and athleticism UofL had on the wings last year masked a lot of the weaknesses that have surfaced this season.

As long as Samuels gets to stand in the lane until the guards pass him the ball, he will score 30 a game. He made his foul shots and was a beast inside.

For some reason Pitino's team have never been able to guard off the dribble. People don't realize, they've been running this zone since 2005. For some reason Pitino's guards just can't check people off the dribble.

 

Sosa is the worse. Siva and Knowles do a decent job of it, that's why he put them in the last minute and to start the OT. It's a huge weakness of UofL. Of course, you have to be good shooting team like ND to exploit it. If you can't shoot they'll set up in the match up zone and hide their inability to defend drivers.

Another extremely large win for UL. Notre Dame had a chance to tie with a guy wide open under the basket as time was expiring, but they couldn't get the ball to him and never got off a shot.

 

I thought Brey made a bad decision at the end...IMO, he should have either taken the TO immediately, or not called it at all. Instead, he lets half the time run off, then calls it. It allowed U of L to get the defense set and took away what could have been some extra seconds for ND to get out of trouble.

 

Sometimes you just need to let your players play. But, its easy to second guess after the fact. And, it doesn't matter to me since I have no rooting interest in ND, and definitely wanted Louisville to win the game.

 

The Cards made this one interesting. Big win for them following the upset in Syracuse.
