This is the only complaint that I have with the way coach Henley coaches. Imo he takes this team's momentum away by trying to force them to run a set offense when he should let them try to bury a team. If you go back and look at games where they have had large leads they seem to give it up running a set offense. This team is not the 08/09 team because it doesn't have the same set of guards to handle the ball. He seems to be very stubborn in his approach of the offensive sets. They don't seem to have any type of high/low offense to get open foul line jump shots. Everything seems to evolve around the 3 pt line. Ricardo and EP both are capable of posting guys up drawing the defense and kicking it out but you never see this done with these guys, jmo.

 

I believe Holmes has 90 wins and 10 losses in the past 3 years which includes a state runner up and state championship trophy. I'd say we should let Henley continue to use his stubborn offense approach which at least imo seems to be working. :thumb:

No one is questioning coach Henley's success. I think he has done an outstanding job with the Holmes program and is to be commended for it. He is clearly thought of as maybe the top high school coach in Northern Ky. by many on this site. I merely stated that imo that his approach to the offense is stubborn. Good coaches have to be able to adapt to their talent and I guess time will tell if this approach works.

I agree...the only people who will not think that elbow was intentional are Boone fans. How a ref didn't see that, I have no clue. Also, lovethegame failed to mention that Brown was lowering his shoulder in to JJ's mid section while trying to post up. JJ finally started playing more physical and pushing back and Brown got frustrated and threw a haymaker of an elbow that caught JJ in the chest.

 

Also, while that was going on, a foul was called on Herndon on I believe Popp but yet Brown goes to the charity stripe and a foul is called on JJ? This was a few seconds after that scuffle and once the whistle was blown on Herndon was when the jawing started between Brown and JJ and the refs had to step in. After a ref stepped in, he discussed it with the two other refs and Brown ends up going to the line instead of Popp.

 

The refs were horrible both ways...plain and simple. They'd call a ticky tack foul one way and then let a clear hack go the other way.

 

Anyone who knows Coach Henley, knows that rarely does he say anything to an official...there were several occasions tonight where Henley was out on the floor during during timeouts giving the ref the business. That alone should tell you the officiating was horrible.

 

 

It was never said that the elbow was not intentional, if you watched that entire scenario it did get to the point where the defenders were over aggresive trying to move Brown off the block and prevent the inlet pass. The baseline ref was watching the entire series and failed to step in and warn either player, so apparently it was just physical play. Plus it's overkill to call it a haymaker! If Brown with his strength and size throws a haymaker, then JJ probably leaves the game for the rest of the night.

Also please explain again how Brown was lowering his shoulder in to JJ's mid section while trying to post up :confused: That seems kind of impossible, so I will not mention something that did not happen. What? Was Brown doing a backbend post move? If your posting up, your back is to the defender (at least that's how I usually see it). As I said before, intentional or not JJ was instigating the issue with his tactics and Brown responded back. If it was deserving of an ejection, I'm sure one of the three refs would have made the call, yes because everyone saw it. Call was not made; move on and don't make this such a big issue of the game itself.

Talent is what coach Henley has been blessed with at Holmes. I agree the set offense let's teams hang around and gives them a chance at the end of games, if he let the horses go a little i believe they win bigger. But like the saying goes a win is a win no matter by how much.

This is the same post that I, among others (Wildcatfan in particular) have said THIS YEAR about the Boone County coach. The style of offense that they run alllows other teams, teams without the depth and athleticism to hang around, and it eventually will jump up and grab you at some point! It has in Boone's case a couple of times this year.

Agreed. Plus I think defense is more intense in the 9th especially in the halfcourt.

With all due respect, you're defending Brown a little much here as if he did nothing at all. Was JJ being overly aggressive while Brown was posting up? Probably so but don't sit here and act like Brown is innocent. Anyone that knows JJ, knows he's one of the most quiet kids on that team and VERY RARELY does he let his emotions get the best of him.

 

Brown was throwing his body in to JJ to try and post him up and after doing that several times, yea, JJ got a little mad and began pushing back. Brown continued to throw his back side in to JJ (had JJ moved, Trevan would've fell) so JJ began pushing back. Brown didn't like that JJ was being aggressive and being pushed off the block by a SMALLER DEFENDER, so he threw an elbow. JJ even stopped and looked at the ref for the no call. After the foul was called on Herndon, JJ and Brown started jawing. A ref came in and separated the two and then a foul is called on JJ :confused:

 

Boone fan or not, you can't sit here and act like Trevan was innocent and did nothing wrong.

Both teams have been blessed with a lot of talent the last few years. That makes the coaches' jobs a lot easier.

 

NKY coaches seem content to play the slow half court game. The problem with this approach is that if you don't get out of the 50s often, you are very susceptible to being upset by a hot shooting team at any time.

I agree that the 9th region is one of the top 3 in the state, but it only has one team ranked in the top 20 in the BGP rankings.
