I agree with the fact a win loss record shows how good a coach is. But what bugs me is the fact that no team in NKY should come within 10 points of Holmes. You should have to go to the 7th or 11th region, with an occasional team here or there, that should be able to compete with that much talent.

 

Henley is a great coach and an awesome person but what will he do when the "Big Three" is gone? That is what i am waiting to see. I insist again, Henley is a great coach. (just to get the point across)

 

 

 

The Holmes Middle School teams are pretty good, if the kids stayed out of trouble.I hear that a lot of this years 8th graders were in trouble all year but they still got some pretty good players coming up the ranks. 7th graders are really good. So there will not be a lost for talent to long in Covington.:thumb:

A foul was called on Herndon on the baseline while defending I believe Popp or another Boone guard.

 

Play was stopped, JJ and Trevan were jawing back and forth. Holmes players and refs stepped in to separate the two. There was maybe a minute or two of congregation between JJ and the ref. Trevan kept jawing while the ref was talking to JJ but nothing was said to him and the Boone players had to come grab him to get him away from the situation.

 

The 3 refs then huddled together and a foul was called on JJ. The Holmes fans and Henley went crazy when the call was made. I believe they were calling a LATE foul on JJ in the post, but as you said, how can they call a foul AFTER the play?

 

The Boone parent that I was sitting with didn't even know why a foul was being called on JJ. EVERYONE in the gym saw the elbow by Brown. That's why Holmes' coaching staff went nuts.

Holmes may not be as much of a favorite next year, but the cupboard is far from bare.

 

The current junior class made it to the JV region championship last year without Rice and an 8th grader, McClendon, being one of their leading scorers. This same junior class wasn't expected to amount to much.

 

The sophomore class has some major size with 6'4 Dontel Rice, 6'5 Hunter Hoskins, and 6'8 David Stephens. Rice will likely end up being better than older brother, Kevon. He'll remind you guys a lot of Greg Rice. Also add Charles Knox and that gives Holmes some more toughness down low. He's a stud on the gridiron at LB.

 

The freshman class is loaded with McClendon, Englemon, Palmer, Coston, and Peterson. The frosh are in the final 4 of the NKY freshman tournament right now...without McClendon. Palmer was one of the leading scorers of the TarHeels team that finished 8th nationally this past summer.

 

The 8th grade class and 7th grade class are also both very good. 8th grade class is led by Jaylen Avery who was the starting pg of that TarHeels team, while being younger than everyone else. He'll be one of the best players in nky his junior and senior year. The 7th grade team was 24-2 last time I checked.

I think they will be pretty good but not the favorites in the 9th. Conner and Boone should both be better. Boone's JV is undefeated and looking for a second straight JV championship this year. Boone's JV beat Holmes last night 55-30. They will have a lot of size next year.

It was never said that the elbow was not intentional, if you watched that entire scenario it did get to the point where the defenders were over aggresive trying to move Brown off the block and prevent the inlet pass. The baseline ref was watching the entire series and failed to step in and warn either player, so apparently it was just physical play. Plus it's overkill to call it a haymaker! If Brown with his strength and size throws a haymaker, then JJ probably leaves the game for the rest of the night.

Also please explain again how Brown was lowering his shoulder in to JJ's mid section while trying to post up :confused: That seems kind of impossible, so I will not mention something that did not happen. What? Was Brown doing a backbend post move? If your posting up, your back is to the defender (at least that's how I usually see it). As I said before, intentional or not JJ was instigating the issue with his tactics and Brown responded back. If it was deserving of an ejection, I'm sure one of the three refs would have made the call, yes because everyone saw it. Call was not made; move on and don't make this such a big issue of the game itself.

I'm not from Northern Ky and I don't know how their public school system works. If I were a student living within the city limits of Covington, what would my options be? Are you forced to go to a certain school based on address?

I agree with you, I think a lot of us see the same picture you're seeing, it's just a few that continue to believe that Holmes is unbeatable. Give them credit because they have been winning up to this point. Let's see what happens when it's one and done and the the bragging/realization can set everyone straight. I too would take Montgomery/Earls/Brown/Cotton/Gabbard/Lay in a regional rematch. Brown played limited minutes last night, as did Montgomery and Cotton in the secon half (foul trouble-part of the game), but a free throw/turn over here or there and the game could have been decided differently. But I guess when you are facing a "much better and more talented team" you can only wish for luck and prayers of winning:rolleyes:

This was a great game that both teams fought pretty hard to win and Holmes came out on top in OT because they performed better and shot the ball in OT. I think Boone did well in regulation by not letting the game get too far ahead of them when they were down by 11.

I checked with someone who was at the scorer's table last night and there was not a foul on Herndon. The foul was on JJ when he pushed Brown.

The ref on the baseline called a foul on Herndon as Popp was driving. However, the other ref called a fall on JJ as a result of the melee that was going on at the same time. The ref on the baseline made his call first, but I guess the other call stuck because that foul occured first, even though it wasn't called first. Several people around me were surprised that Popp didn't go to the free throw line.
