New Schools

Featured Replies

While starting the 2010 team threads, we, at Bluegrasspreps, want to make sure to include every team in the state so that each team can be discussed by you; the fans, parents, and supporters. To do this we go by the list of teams from the previous year. The only problem is that sometimes there are new schools opened, schools that start a football program then didn't have one the year before, and some schools consolidate.

So, help the bluegrasspreps staff and the fans out and name any new school that will open in 2010 and participate in football. Also, name any existing school that will begin a football program in 2010 that did not previous have a football team. And, name any schools that will be closing, consolidating, or doing away with there football program in 2010.

Thank you in advance from the Bluegrasspreps staff for your assistance in making this the number 1 Kentucky High School sports website.

Martha Layne Collins HS opens in Shelbyville this fall. Preliminary word is that MLC will be 4A, and that Shelby County HS will fall from 6A to 4A.

Any information on Collins High in relation to school colors, nicknames, etc.? And that question can be for any new school opening later in the thread.

I'd go with odds and say either tigers, eagles, or colonels. :D

I've heard Titans with the Red/Blue and White color scheme.

South Warren opens in 2010 but will not play Varsity football till 2011. They will be the Spartans and their colors are Black, Silver, and Royal. They will start out as a 5A school.

Don't forget wildcats and cardinals, which are also quite popular in this state.

Collins should go with "Governors." Why can't these schools pick unique names? (Hats off to S. Warren — as far as I know there are no other "Spartans" in Ky.)

I agree, why not Govs?

I believe they had three or four names that the students voted on. The power of popular media! :thumb:

I like that, ... the governors! Works for me!

I also like the unusual nicknames. Somerset Briarjumpers, ... but my favorite was when I lived in WV and heard about the Poca Dots for the first time.

Don't know about the colors, but they will be known as the TITANS.

Sorry wrong thread.

No love for Sayre, eh Jim?!

And I absolutely love the idea of the Collins High Governors.

Ah, the students. Can't somebody tell those folks to ask BGP if they really want to know a good nickname and color choice!
