Best Sophomores in 9th reigon

I really think New could develop into a very very good Point guard. He already has a football body and a great handle. I hope he sticks with hoops. Being the grandson of Kenny Shields doesnt hurt either.

I think he will. He can jump out of the gym and very good handle and nose for the ball in passing lanes. He still needs confidence in his shot, but does everything else well. I think PT also will be a good basketball player very fluid for his size. I see both playing football and basketball throughout. Very talented athletes.

This is a pretty weak overall class in Northern Kentucky IMO.

It's kind of hard to make that judgement so early. One of the biggest reasons we aren't seeing a lot of underclassmen making an impact right now is because the class of 2010 is so deep with talent.

Covcath, for example, doesn't list one sophomore on the roster that was submitted to the KHSAA.

Highlands is a senior dominated team.

Holmes is a senior dominated team.

Newport and Newcath are both senior dominated teams.

Ryle, Conner, and Boone are all three veteran teams.

The only teams in the 9th that really have a lot of youth are the smaller schools such as Beechwood,

I think by the end of next season you'll see a lot of players listed that aren't even being thought of right now.

I would say that overall the Soph Class is not as strong this year. Much of it has to do with the SR laden teams but it is just a down year.

I agree with you, too hard to say right now that this is a weak class as most of these kids have not had the opportunity to play significant time at the varsity level.

If they were that strong wouldn't they be playing varsity minutes? Plus next year they won't be sophmores anymore. If it were a strong class I think they would be making some noise this late in the year. All the kids Walter mentioned are very nice players and are making an impact for their teams this year.

Plenty of kids make huge strides from during the summer headed into junior & senior season. I wouldn't be so quick to give up on a 16 year old kid who is just filling into his body.

A lot of kids advance significantly from their Sophomore to Junior season and become top contributors. When you have talent like the kids at Holmes they will play significant minutes as a sophomore. But most kids progress through their careers. The talent at Holmes is rare. Is their any DI talent in the current Sophomore class? Probably not, but how much DI talent is normally in NKY? I just think its too soon to make the call on whether or not this is a good class.

Let's look at it this way - what sophomores are getting varsity minutes every night and scoring points? If we look at it that way it will at least narrow it down. I agree there are some sophomores on talented teams that will develop but let's focus on who is getting in the box scores right now as a sophomore.

On Walter's list above, I think that only Burger/Holy Cross, Pike/Dixie and Cruse/Beechwood fit that criteria. What other sophomores are getting their names in the box scores every night?

Hightchew has been in the box scores and playing behind Grant Pangallo. That is a tall order!

I've always been an Evan Morse fan. (NCC)

Big, strong, aggressive.

Unfortunately playing behind Geisler and not getting much exposure.

I wouldnt say that Walter you know i'm a Dixie fan. Dixie Will return there 4 best all around basketball players next year. Hatton, Pike, Trammel, Stansberry, and Armbruster will be in that line up as well. Throw Jordan Hassel who is also a sophomore in the Mix and this team will be tough.

I know Hatton is ranked #1 in the state in his class as of now... But as best Sophomores in NKY....

Top 5

1) Zeke Pike-Dixie

2) Cooper Downs- Boone

3) Parker Stansberry- Dixie

4) Brady Highchew- NCC

5) Jacob Burger- Holy Cross

Jacob Burger is a great shooter, i watched the Holy Cross/ Dixie Game and he caught fire and had 31pts.

Pike is just and all around player and has been scoring in the high teens or 20s every night he had 28 against Cambell Co and 26 against SK.

Cruse is a great Role player and will continure to improve

Cruse, before he was injured, was way more than a role player for Beechwood. Cruse has a lot of potential to be good for the Tigers.
