Highschool transfer rule

Featured Replies

Ok, I am totally lost on this subject.

If a player played a Varsity sport for "public county school A" in "county school district 1" and then transferred the next season to "public county school B" in the same "county school district 1" to play the same sport, is this person in question eligible to participate for "public county school B" without sitting out?

If a kid played one second of varsity sports at his former or "sending" school, he will be ineligible at his new or "receiving" school for one year unless one of the exceptions listed in by law 6 is satisfied and it doesn't matter if the transfer is from public to public (including another high school in the same district); public to private; private to private; or private to public.

There's really no "release" that a school signs. They fill out the normal transfer paperwork, if the student has played a varsity sport they check yes. That's it.

What rules were appplied to make all of the Rose Hill transfers eligible this year?

Correct, although there are a few more questions on the transfer form for the sending school to complete.

Do any of those questions deal with either "believed motivation behind transfer" or "consent" of the sending school?

Neither

Leatherneck that is not true there was a gril that played at NCC and then went to Highlands and she did not sit out at all.

What did I say that wasn't true?

No pun to Highlands but, there are kids that play at one School and go to another School and play right away. There has been two one at Highlands and one at Boone in the last four years.

I don't think any one said that couldn't occur. The transfer just needed to have met one of the listed exceptions to the general rule set forth in By Law 6.

Leatherneck is right, but I hate the vagueness of these rules, and the belief by many that the rules may be in place to make things fair, but it would appear certain teams get more transfers than others, and certain schools have no problem getting transfers cleared while others struggle with it. (From a sports perspective.)

"If it supposed to be about the kids", the common refrain heard, then again, I would l like to see either no rule, and you can transfer as you like, or be strict about things. The vast middle ground is where the stumbling blocks are, and what folks bicker about.

The rule is not always enforced see Sullivan - NCC

See Makie Highlands, see Arnold HC, see Moss Boone and the list goes on.

Although it was purely to get the exception, the family did move albeit in with family members.
