It is easier to advance out of the district in the 35th. It has been a two horse race for years now with an occasional surprise. You never know who is coming out of the 33rd year in and year out.

 

That's because year in year out the best two programs in the ninth region are in the 35th district. Sorry but regional titles and what they were able to do in the state tourney speaks for itself. Its not Holmes and Cov Cath fault that other district have parity but they pretty much know they will see each other in the district finals most years, and in 07 and 08 there was little doubt around NKY they would see each other in the Regional finals as well.

All of the coaches mentioned are very good coaches, but I don't see how anyone could not consider Henley and Listerman as the 9th's two best coaches:

 

Holmes during Henley's tenure as head coach:

 

97/98: 14-12 (Region semi finalist)

98/99: 22-5 (L 35th district semi's)

99/00: 21-9 (9th region runner up)

00-01: 10-17 (L 9th region 1st round)

01/02: 17-12 (L 9th region 1st round)

Henley is 256-111 in his career at Holmes with 4 region championships (5 appearances), 3 state semi finals appearances, 2 state championship appearances, and one state championship. Holmes has also advanced to the region semi's or farther in 7 of his 12 years.

 

Covcath during Listerman's tenure as head coach:

 

00-01: 22-6 (L 9th region 1st round)

01-02: 25-5 (9th Region Runner Up)

02-03: 18-10 (L 9th region 1st round)

03/04: 29-4 (State semi finalist)

04/05: 23-7 (9th region Runner Up)

05/06: 24-7 (9th region Champions)

06/07: 24-7 (9th region Runner Up)

07/08: 21-9 (9th region Runner Up)

Listerman is 205-81 in his 10 years at Covcath. The Colonels made 5 straight region championship appearances during his tenure and have been to the title game 6 times. They have only won the region crown twice though.

I just went to the first site the search engine took me to, believe me there were plenty more to back up my stance. You however went to the tourism site is that the best site to back up your argument? No really is it? The Derby Region is also a region on the map you brought up, is that really a region. I am going to have to teach my kids that their dad is clueless all these years I didn't know there was a Derby region. It is funny how when some people are wrong even when their facts are not really facts just a tourism map they try to make themselves look smarter by putting down someone elses information saying it is inferior. This is truly the last I am going to say about this, there are much more important things going on in the universe than to worry about this stuff.

 

You forgot to mention the Bluegrass, Blues and Barbecue and Caves,Lakes and Corvettes regions. That certainly sounds official to me.

Give Faust the talent that has been at CovCath and Listerman the talent that has been at St Henry. What would happen in both places? That is the question on my mind and I'm not sure of the answer.

Best move St. Henry ever made was getting out of the tough 33rd. Was that 7 early exits out of the 33rd in 11 years???

Not that surprising when you look at the 33rd District schedule (Boone, Ryle, Conner, SK) and then also look at the non-district schedule Faust usually has had. Then teams like LexCath, St. X, Elder, and Trinity and some other big names usually showing up on St Henry's schedule.

 

Then to go along with that he schedules the other "Bigs" in NKY year in year out(Brossart, CovCath, Highlands, NCC, and Holmes).

 

This is the first year in some time I've actually seen teams like Bellvue, Dayton, Williamstown show up on his schedules. Im sure part of that has to do with this team not having a lot of varsity experience outside of Anderson, Hils, and Bessler.

Because of lesser expectations at St. Henry, everyone (including players) buys in to the coach and that helps a lot on the court. At CCH, even in the good years the second guessing is off the charts. The players hear it at home and in the halls at school and it probably hurts some on the floor. I would still take the talent at CCH over St. Henry because it is always easier to win with talent.

Holy Cross fans would tell you that their "Dream Team" was in 2002 through 2004. Joe Stevie, Bibbins, etc. (I can't think of the other kids name (senior & frosh...his dad is a nurse....right now b/c it's 4:19 a.m.).

 

Regardless, that was Danny Trame's "dream team" and he failed to even make the region (again). HC claims to be a big boy but they can't compete with the big boys.

Apparently there are a few more people that agree with you guys as it was announced at last night's game that Coach Dilts will be inducted in the No.Ky Sports Hall of Fame in a couple weeks for his 30+ years of coaching at Dayton

Wrong...... and you don't want to challenge me on something that I did for a living for years and years.

 

Northern Kentucky and that does include Williamstown are in the River Region but then again the good folks in Boone, Kenton and Campbell don't say we are the Gateway to the Bluegrass which is of course the Lexington area. We from NKy are proud of being from our part of the Commonwealth and we don't try to say we are a part of someplace else.

 

Don't know of a single person from NKy (at least those that were born here) that doesn't say that they are from NKy first, when a person inquirers from where they are from, when they ask. If the person looks puzzled, then and then only then will most from NKy say, Greater Cincinnati and most spit it out begrudgingly.

Haven't heard from you in awhile and was just wondering where you've been. Who was wrong and shouldn't be challenged on this, Please!

Saw coach Dilts get throwed out of Silver Grove the other day for coming out of the stands and getting on referees in a middle school game his son coaches,nice character lol.Wonder if that taught the kid's anything. And saw him a couple years ago get thrown out of Bellevue during a jv tourney,also for getting on officials, another game he was not the coach of.

Brad Carr should definetly be a 10 coach. He has turned Scott's basketball program around in the last 5 years. Two 20+ win seasons. Back to back district titles, and their first in 8 years. A couple of regional final fours. Not to shabby for what once was a totally overlooked school when it came to basketball.
