well he was not held back for sports he was strickly held back because of his age, his parents did not want him to graduate at 17. who wants to send there kids away to college just barely turning 18. I know i was scared to death going out of town to college at 19 yrs old and his parents thought that the extra year would help him mature and be ready to go away for school and personally i think it is a great idea to give kids that extra year to mature both athletically and personaly for all kids.

I truly believe most parents (90%) do it for athletic reasons. No problem with that at all.

I agree. He is already very good with a very high basketball IQ. You can tell he has played thousands of basketball games. Hopefully he finds his way back to Covington soon.

Of course they did. However I don't believe that you realize how beneficial one year of school can be for their maturity. I don't think that is necessarily something you are looking at , at four or five years old. I don't think it would matter what anyone said why he was held back people are still going to talk about it. I think this subject has been talked about several times. Regardless of his heldback status the fourteen year old kid dropped 34 points against a nice ball club.

He looks more mature as an 8th grader than some 10th graders I have seen atleast physically. Unless he has the emotional maturity as a 7th grader I can understand.

 

I firmly believe, like Clyde, that he was held back to maximize his athletic potential to receive a scholarship. I am okay with that because I would do the same thing if I noticed that my son was something very special at a certain age and allowing him to play his SR yr at 19 would garner him maybe a better scholly.

 

Either way, he is a great player and I have always said he was a great player since I first saw him lighting it up in 4th grade down at KBA in the state tourney.

He's 5'11" and yeah he's a shooting guard.

Hatton put on a show. He does appear to be done growing though. I hesitate to say he's going to be a 9th region "all-timer" at this point because he has taken advantage of playing off his teammates. That is not a bad thing of course, but as he gets older, he will be a focal point for all defenses to key on. With his lack of size, that could hurt him, but then again, we see successful players under 6'0" all the time. Best of luck to him and Dixie as they head down the stretch run of the season.

From talking to his parents the hatton kid will be 18 his entire senior season not 19(late april birthday).I don't think he is done growing his parents have said the doctors have said he could be anywhere from 6'2 to 6'6 (his uncle kevin eilers is 6'9 who playes at holmes and in college in early 90's). lets all hope he is not done growing because with a few more inches he could get some looks from major colleges

:thumb: I dont think he is done growing. Boys generally grow until their sophomore year or maybe later depending on the kid. I think he could get to about 6'2" or 6'3". I dont think he will get to 6'6" though. He's only 5'11" now so that would be a major growth spurt. But I hope nothing but good news for the kid. If he gets to 6'2" or 6'3" im a believer in thinking he can go to a major basketball college.

Nice win for Dixie and congrats to the Hatton boy for shooting the lights out. Looking up the stats on the boy I ran across an interesting stat based on what the Enquirer has listed. Dixie does not have one player averaging a full assist per game. Many top teams have a player with 50 or more assists to date. I know Trammel is out but what is up with that?

For all you guys or gals who worries about him being held back get over. Face the fact he is going to be a great player. If your kid was as good as him you wouldn't be bash him. He will play at the next level . That not a Question.

I didn't see anyone bashing him. I actually saw them praising him with the fact that he was good enough either way.

Yes, its actually a compliment when you can say a kid didn't need to be held back because he can light it up regardless. He is a fun player to watch for sure.
