I think that the obvious choice for the new coach is Eviston. Not sure if it's the best choice for the job but I do think he'll get it.

Eddie Eviston is the best candidate for the job. Look at his resume' date=' a New Cath graduate, was a three sport standout athlete. Recieved ''That's my boy award''. Earned a Scholarship to Georgetown Ky, where he Quarterbacked three (NAIA) National Championships teams and was also named ''National Player of the year" award 2 years in a row. Drafted by the KC City Chiefs. Went to the Arena football league won a championship in that league. I had even heard that he QB 4 undefeated superbowl championship teams when he played youth football in ''NKYFL'', for the Firefighters and was inducted into the NKYFL Hall of fame. Needless to say he may know a little about the game. First class individual, excellent Role model and has a good repore with the players. Good luck Thoroughbreds! Resume wise, Wagner is the strongest candidate right now. He's been the D-Coordinator for 9 10 seasons, and NewCath has consistently been one of the top 10 class A-AA rushing D's in the state. That's w/ the schedule that they play. Additionally they've been to 6 out of 10 state championship games. The issue is that he is not at the school during the day. I don't know the criteria, but that may play a part in the decision making. On the flip side, Eddie is an incredibly smart person, as well as successful athlete. He hasn't had the opportunity to build his resume, but he has been a part of, or around NewCath athletics for 20+ years. Additionally he is at the school every day. Both candidates have their strengths and their weaknesses, but I would be happy w/ my sons playing for either one. They are both positive men, who will work their tails off to better the team, and NewCath as a school.

Being a great player (athlete) does ensure success as a coach..... not only is Eddie a great guy and was an outstanding player but a large part of coaching is dealing, school admin. and policies, along with your players both on and off the field of player, as well as parents. Not sure Eddie is ready for all that....a few more years coaching at the HS level, in a coordinator role, is what I would think he needs to truly be ready to take over a program, especially one the caliber of NCC.

 

With that said frontrunners would have to be Dan Wagner and Terry Brown. Both have a solid track record with the "X's & O's" of the game and more importantly both are experienced (position and coordinators) coaches and teachers that truly understand the "in's & out's" and all the "red tape" that goes along with running a program, dealing with parents and players.

 

Typically not understood by those outside the educational institutions….it is not as simple as just coaching the game....there is a lot that goes on coach’s have to be able, willing, and ready to deal with….if they could just “coach”, then that is a different story.

I see your argument for Wagner, but not for Brown. Terry is going to be a star, but right now, he's just as green as Eddie. They have basically the same amount of experience as coaches. Terry has done a great job out at the County, but I don't see a vast experience gap there.
