No disrespect to either player, but I wouldn't imagine either are the kind of guys most would invision ND building a National Championship contender out of.

 

ND will get their "big fish". I think Brian Kelly right now is looking to get RKG's (Right Kind of Guys). I like these types of guys, guys who will give you everything they got, work hard, and be leaders. People say why did he get 5 QB's this class? I think thats a solid move. Two will be moved to other positions and then who ever isn't the second string guy will transfer. Plus those guys are leaders, the kind of guys I would want in my locker room.

I've followed Dawson for many years. He's good enough to contribute at Notre Dame. He's gonna be a big get in this class for someone. I'd say he ends up at UK (Chuck Smith).

 

I'm pretty sure ND was looking at him well before BK got there.

 

I just don't think you build a national championship competing with UK for recruits. But of course that's JMO.

The Star system is garbage, I can agree with you there.

 

It's going to take a different breed of athlete all over for ND to get to a MNC level. Floyd could play anywhere, Rudolph could play anywhere, and Crist had his choice of schools. But as a whole they have to get more athletic. I don't know too much about either player, but if their likely to be UK players it's not the kind of guys ND should get on early. JMO.

Cats, I agree with you 100% on that. I think I may have worded what I meant wrong. Its just a lot of Irish fans on other boards are getting impatient already about the recruiting. I think these guys he is getting are good guys but if you want to compete for a MNC every year you still have to go out and get the Floyd's, Rudolph's, and Crist's that are out there. I just like some of the guys he is bringing in, like Collinsworth for example.

 

IMO, you need 2 of 3 things to spark interest and attract players to your school initially:

1. The University itself, location and partying ect.

2. The program, tradition but a lot more with recent success of the program.

3. Academics. Though this might not be the case for every big time player.

 

Notre Dame doesn't have #1. Not many schools have the campus that ND has but South Bend isn't exactly LA, Gainsville or anywhere south really.

 

They for sure have #3 and if BK can get #2 back on track quickly, like it used to be, then they will defiantly be back to competing for the MNC year in year out.

I really like the way you look at that, and I agree. I just think that the last few years have proven that you really need kids from either the Southeast, Texas or California to play in the "Big Boy Games", even OSU is hitting up some of these spots for crying out loud.

 

Also with major schools there is a saying, "Offer the kids you probably won't get, first", meaning that ND should be trying to get on the big dogs from the "hotbed" regions now. It's hard to get kids from there to leave anyways, let alone if you wait until later in the season. That's why you see alot of the bigger names getting offers from out of state schools, while the instate guys are just giving regular corespondence, with the major exception being Texas obviously.

 

The two kids they are trying to steal from UK are guys that probably won't be as big of a name, so they could wait a little longer, IMO. However, they may just be kids they're keeping an eye on, which there is no problem in at all. On the surface (to me) it seems like BK is still recruiting like he's at UC as a whole. But, that's just my opinion, and I obviously don't follow ND recruiting enough to know the ins and outs.:thumb:

Got two recent kids who had visited Auburn. One is the son of a former Bama QB Danny Woodson. WR 6'4". His dad played in the early 90s but had some trouble and had to leave but remain a Bama guy. This might be out best class in a while.

While I like Hankerson, Benjamin, Byrd, Johnson, Collier and Streeter better at the U (I think that WR core is going to absolutely blow up this year), Cincy's is definitely up there. UC is definitely going to put up some video game numbers in Jones' system.
