I think Rich did a good job but not the type of job that you name something after him. Name an award or scholarship after him. I see where you are coming from, but let's be honest here, I don't think we will ever see a national title football team at UK. Rich Brooks did things that had never been done at UK and rebuilt the program from the ashes left when Mumme/Bassett left it burning to the ground. Oregon named their field after him because of what he built from next to nothing. I just think that what he did was special enough to warrant this. No offense to CM Newton, but Brooks did more for UK football than Newton ever did and the field is currently named after him. In comparison, Brooks did great things in the history of UK football, which let's be honest here, doesn't have a long tradition of consistent winning teams. I would be okay naming a scholarship after him. I just think that the university should do something for Brooks who took the abuse to build something the right way. He took a job that quite honestly, nobody else wanted. No coach since Bear Bryant had won consistently at UK without cheating. Curci = Probation. Claiborne = occasional winner & bowl game (great guy). Curry = great recruiter, couldn't win consistently. Mumme = probation. If it were UK basketball, the candidate better have multiple national titles like Rupp to get something big named after them. In football, history dictates a different standard.

January 6, 201016 yr "Hal Mummer pass" is it still there? Newton/Brooks Field sounds good, I wouldn't take away someones name. We have so many "Paul Bryant" stuff its kinda crazy. Locker room maybe for Brooks.

If you are happy with always being 1 spot above Vandy then change the name of the University. If I am right he took over a team that went 7-5 under Morris and had 4 losing seasons. He did a good job. But only good enough to for a street name. As for having 14 wins taken away, he hardly has 14 career wins to take away.
January 7, 201016 yr I forsee them building a recruiting lounge (this is one of the things that Brooks has been lobying for) and name that after him! I agree he deserves something. Also while not trying to thread jack...had Pitino not done what he has done over the past 10 year (being at U of L) I think his name would have been part of the new practice facility!

As for having 14 wins taken away, he hardly has 14 career wins to take away. The last time I checked, during the past 4 seasons under Brooks, they've went to 4 straight bowl games and won 3 of them. I believe one of those teams were Florida St. 4 straight bowl games may have happened before, but certainly not in my lifetime. He's set the groundwork for KY to get even better. Is Guy Morris even coaching now?

Brooks takes UK to some lower level bowls when they are now 10000 bowls and people compare him to Bear Bryant. Thank goodness for La monroe, eastern, mamai of ohio etc. Need to remember UK still finished 5th out of 6 in the SEC east. Again thank goodness for Vandy.

But that team was feeling NO impact of the probation or scholarship losses. He hardly has 14 wins to take away? That is just an inaccurate cheap shot IMHO. He has that many wins in the past two seasons. But you cannot deny that he has done things at UK that have never been done there before. We can agree to disagree on whether they should name the field after him, but I would MUCH rather see the FOOTBALL field named after a FOOTBALL coach than a former AD who was a former BASKETBALL coach. That speaks volumes about what the history of UK football has been since Bear Bryant left (and when he was here). But he could never win consistently year after year at UK. He would get to a bowl game every few years, but what I most admired about him was that he did it the RIGHT way. And he absolutely did a bang up job getting the best instate talent. He didn't cut corners and discipline for violation of team rules applied to everyone regardless of who they were. VERY similar to Brooks. There are a lot of similarities between the two as people and as coaches. BUT, I just believe that Brooks has done more with a more difficult situation than even Claiborne had to deal with. He was the last coach to actually win a bowl game before Brooks came to UK (1984 Hall of Fame Bowl in Birmingham, and I am proud to say that I was there). If there isn't something named after him at UK, there ought to be.,

January 8, 201016 yr The SEC wasn't nearly as rugged when Claiborne was the coach. I respect Claiborne and appreciate what he did but Brooks has UK's talent level at a new level.
