December 30, 200916 yr What makes any of the three corners selected better than Hall and Joseph this year? Hall and Joseph both have better stats than Bailey. He got in because of his name. This isn't an anti Bengal thing. Frankly, I'd trade the Steeler corners even with the Bengals corners in a blink. But come on guys, all things equal, without the striped shades on, who in their right mind would take the Bengal corners over the 2 starters or Champ? As far as stats are concerned, sometimes corners stats are underinflated because they aren't being thrown at for a reason just like UKMF stated above. Let's be serious here for a second.
December 30, 200916 yr It is true. Leon and JJ combined for 12 total INT's while Bailey and Nnamdi combied for 4, with Nnamdi only having one. He also only had 30 some odd tackles while Leon and JJ had over 60 a piece. Leon and JJ also had more passes defened than Bailey or Nnamdi. I don't know how it works but it sure seems like Leon and JJ were very productive. To me, by the stats you posted, it would appear Bailey and Nnamdi were more productive at corner because people were less likely to throw at them. Because they only recorded 30 tackles, it does not mean they missed on twice as many ball carriers. It probably shows that Leon and JJ had twice as many opportunities because the ball was thrown at them more. This is not a knock on Leon on JJ, just the reality of the situation. A legit case could be made for them over one of these two guys. All 3 corners that made it from the AFC are Hall of Fame caliber, imo. The AFC is just simply more deep across the board than the NFC. To me, Ocho was the 7th best WR in the AFC. He would have made the NFC roster most likely.

It also stands to reason that the more times you're thrown on, the more times you"ll be beaten, which leads me to believe that having Hall and Joseph on the same team hurts them in terms of Pro Bowl voting. I mean the opposing QB has to throw on one of them, which in turn leads to more big plays against each than against the other elite CBs in the AFC.

December 30, 200916 yr Author And the players don't even get to go to Hawaii any more. True. Now they're playing at the Super Bowl location. Hmmmm...maybe the best way to get revenge is for the Bengals to have the ENTIRE TEAM there....just a week later!!
December 30, 200916 yr Another point on Mike and Mike brought up by Stink is how Chris Johnson is on the verge of 2000 yards, and not 1 OL from the Titans made the Pro Bowl. The AFC is just stacked.

The other thing to consider, though, is what type of team they're playing on. The three that got named are all on teams that very easily could miss the playoffs...which means they got beat just as often as they won (or more!) So, in many late game situations, their opponents may be running the ball (to kill the clock) as opposed to the Bengals' opponents who are still airing it out in an effort to stay in the game. That factor alone can help attribute to the way the stats play out. Another thing to consider is whether a corner is willing to make some tackles on the running game. Too often I've seen corners bail out in order to let a LB make the play on those end arounds. Guys willing to mix it up, are gonna have a chance at having more tackles...even though the ball was never thrown. Not saying that's the case here...just that it's hard to interpret the stats.

We can spin it many ways. The Bengals also played some bad competition that could have helped their numbers. I realize all of that and you have a lot of valid points. I was just responding to the notion that Hall and Joseph have better stats, therefore they are more worthy of the nod. Which is not the case or the full story. And while Cincy has won their division, let us not pretend they have run away with it and are sitting on a 4 game lead. They are at 10-5 and have had to pull out many late game victories against some of the NFL weaklings.... mainly because of offensive ineptitude. I am not sure many times teams were forced to air it out as much as you portray. Not to the point where the stats would be overinflated. If the Bengals continue with their success, these two will get their deserved credit :thumb:
December 30, 200916 yr And we'd have the same arguments here if one had made it and the other hadn't. This thread feels like the day after March Madness selection day.

December 30, 200916 yr Lets be honest is there anything more meaningless than the NFL Pro Bowl? The Pro Bowl is awful, I will give you that. But I generally feel the NFL does a a lot better job of selecting their All Star talent compared to other sports. They normally have it right.
December 30, 200916 yr With the game being moved to week before Superbowl and guys not wanting to play and injuries, I would guess around 15 spots will have to be filled.
December 30, 200916 yr Dhani had 10 less tackles, same amount of ints and FF, and has 2.5 more sacks. But it s not even close?
December 30, 200916 yr Its a shame that the Bengals don't have a single Pro Bowler. They definitely have a couple who deserve it. Its ok though because those guys who should have madwe it wouldn't have got to play in the Pro Bowl this season anyways, because they will be playing in the Super Bowl. WHO DEY!
