December 29, 200916 yr The details to this story are starting to come out here in Texas. If what we are hearing is true, Leach is in the wrong and will be fired. What is being reported here is that Leach felt like the kid was faking an injury (concussion) and ordered the trainers to put the kid in a storage shed and remove all furniture so that he couldn't sit and put a guard there so that he couldn't lean. The kid stayed in this position for 3 hours. Leach then, the next day, ordered the trainer to put the kid in a closet under the same circumstances as the day before. If these details are true, then Leach is in the wrong and should be terminated, IMO. Also, Leach is not denying that the actions were taken, just that the circumstances are not as suggested. He pointed to the kid being 10th on the team in receptions and not getting a ton pf playing time as the cause of the flare up. This sound to me like the Coach Barnett defense in the Katie Knida (sp.) incident, if folks recall. Barnett was fired and has not sniffed another coaching job since. This could be Leach's fate if this is as described, IMO.
December 29, 200916 yr If a Coach does something really stupid, they can be fired with out any payment. Moral clause or something. Mike Price of Bama comes to mind. Mike Dubose of Bama comes to mind.

December 30, 200916 yr Leach is filing for a restraining order that will allow him to coach the bowl game. He feels that the school is trying to fire him. Texas rumors are that Leach is gone- the feelers have already been put out for Kevin Sumlin to take over. If no on Sumlin then they will go June Jones. These are just rumors, though.
December 30, 200916 yr Will be interesting to see if it's by Thurs. I think some contract stuff kicks in on Thurs.
December 30, 200916 yr I just find it really hard to believe a coach of Leach's stature and wisdom would put a kid in a closet with a security guard with today's technology...not to mention his dad works for the media! Makes ZERO sense!

The initial reports of the "shed" and "electrical closet" appear to be a bit misleading. http://www.doubletnation.com/2009/12/30/1225037/the-saga-of-mike-leach-something
December 30, 200916 yr I keep hearing people say Tech wants Leach fired, but why? He has brought them a ton of success.
December 30, 200916 yr I keep hearing people say Tech wants Leach fired, but why? He has brought them a ton of success. Same reason a lot of people wanted Bobby Knight fired from IU. He puts the University in situations like this more often than not.
December 30, 200916 yr He was here with Hal Bumme and his "upstanding " group and we saw how that one worked out . Also, U.K. just got rid of one Texas drunk and certainly don't want to bring in another one in Leach....."Otis II".:ohbrother: He was not the issue at UK. Chris Hatcher was here during that period also and he is the coach at Murray State now. Hatcher is considered an outstanding coach in the college ranks and a person of good moral standing. Tony Franklin was in that group also. The point is just because someone was on staff does not mean they took part in the issues that got UK football in trouble. Leach is also not a drunk. He is a little different for a Mormon but a drunk he is not. There have been issues between Leach and Tech for a number of years. They have wanted to get rid of him but because of what he has done they need a reason to. Now they seem to have something they can call their reason. Either way I believe Leach is gone Sun/Mon at the latest. The real question is where will he end up because someone is going to take him but I am not sure what the open job market looks like right now. His contract might not have a moral clause in it.

December 30, 200916 yr The admin is probably still smarting from the contract negotiations last year. Didn't they threaten to fire him last year if he didn't sign a contract extension? Makes no sense to me.:idunno:
December 30, 200916 yr The James kid is starting to look like a pansy. I'm sure dad's not helping the situation. I've never liked him on TV.
December 30, 200916 yr Author The James kid is starting to look like a pansy. I'm sure dad's not helping the situation. I've never liked him on TV. Agree 100%. Between Mangianos deal and this one the coaches will be handcuffed. Maybe...I am to old school but...kids these days as well as adults...have a sense of entitlement. It seems to me that each time his dad calls a game...He wants to really make his points are heard.
