Kentucky-Duke classics

Featured Replies

1984 ... Dicky Beal gets away with a critical walk late in the regional final win over Illinois at Rupp, then Kentucky goes 3-for-33 in the second half against Georgetown.

Karma ...

Not sure that is the one for this thread but I remember it well. Funny thing is that Lou Do Henson cried more about the fouls than the walk if I recall.

You are also right about Karma too, she is an unforgiving girl. :thumb:

How many of those timeouts were called by Duke players in loose ball/out-of-bounds situations, most of which are wholly unnecessary.

I remember that the last timeout was called by a player, and we knew it was going to hurt the Dookies sometime in the final minutes.

Agreed. Wojo may be the most overrated player in college basketball history.

Overrated, yes. But Wojo could sure slap the hardcourt with his hands.

At one point Billy Packer says, "I wonder if we're going to get Wojo slapping the court on this possession." Turner proceeds to go right around him for a bucket.

Packer used nicknames for Duke players like he was a close friend to the families, and in a way he was, a close friend to the ACC family.

And why do the TV cameras (especially ESPN) always cut away to the parents and grandparents of the Duke players numerous times during a contest, particularily if the game is in Cameron? They don't do that very often in other games they broadcast. What's the deal with that?

Actually, I was watching the Duke/Maryland game yesterday and they showed Steve Blake's father over and over until Steve Blake fouled out. He made the drive from Miami to College Park every game to watch Steve play.

In the '98 game I recall them showing Wojo's parents a couple of times. They also showed the wives of both coaches, but definitely Coach K's wife more.

They showed Laettner's mom in a neck brace many times during the 92 game. Funny enough she was sitting with Brian Davis' mom.....

Donna got her fair share of tv time as well when Tubby was coaching. As does Ashley Judd at any game she shows up to.

Not all games have been what you call Classis, but here's all 19 games between UK and Duke:
