Official announcement on Mr. Football is scheduled to be released at 3 p.m. today by The Associated Press, but AP Photo has already moved pictures of Fort Campbell quarterback Antonio Andrews as the winner.

 

Boyle County’s Rees MacShara, who became only the sixth Kentuckian ever to rush for 3,000 or more yards in one season, was a finalist for the award and was trying to become Boyle’s second Mr. Football. Jeff Duggins won the honor in 2001.

 

Other previous local Mr. Football winners were Jeremy Simpson of Lincoln County and Dennis Johnson of Harrodsburg.

 

AP Photo also is reporting that Boyle’s Larry French and Highlands’ Dale Mueller are co-coaches of the year. Both led their teams to 15-0 records and state championships.

I wasn't expecting Larry French to make co-coach of the year. Still some good news if things go as planned I guess.

I don't think Larry would have leaked this if he wasn't 100% sure that this is what the announcement will be.

 

So congrats (even if premature) to Antonio Andrews. He is a deserving winner of the name Mr. Football for Kentucky. :thumb:

On a side note, the Leaf Chronicle article was wrong as Antonio was undefeated as the starting quarterback, he did not play in the Franklin Simpson gmae last year just prior to the playoffs.

I have been saying he was Mr. Football for months; what a big honor for him, his family and the FC community.

 

Also, says a lot about Coach Berner producing a Mr. Football in 2005 & 2009 at a little 2A school!! He really knows how to develop a game plan based upon the strength of his players.
