Why does it have to be the best player on the best team? Shouldn't it be for the best player in the nation? Too many people look at a team's record when giving out individual awards.

You make a good point, I think way too much is put into the TEAM's record when this is an individual award.

Hard to believe this is Bama's first Heisman winner, maybe that says something about how the award was voted on in the past.

Wish I was home to agree with FairFan earlier. Gerhart 100%. Alabama might have had 1 or 2 losses without Ingram. Stanford would probably be like 2-10 without Gerhart.

Well deserving winner, the best player on the best team in the country.

Not even the best player on his team.

I liked Gerhart too. Ingram was surrounded with much more talent than Gerhart. Look at this way, Bama has good enough depth at RB to win the SEC with their backups.

Stanford is going to their first bowl game in nearly a decade thanks to Gerhart. He was pretty much their team.

Andrew Luck is a pretty good quarterback....

As a staunch Pac-10 fan, all of this makes for fun spirited debate, but there is no question that Ingram had a great football season, on the best team in a tough conference that he has had a large role in bringing to the title game. He is a deserving young man and should be congratulated.

My boy didnt win but thats ok. He did win the Heisman belt!:ylsuper:

How about this, of the 5 guys up there each one had already won an award of some type and these were very high honors. Mark doesn't win the Heisman he wins nothing for his season. The Cornhusker actually won several.

Not sure what Colt won but he did, Stanford back won the Doak Walker. Tim won something and has a Heisman.

Just an insight, not defending Mark winning the Heisman, he earned it.

I would have voted for Toby but I understand completely Ingram winning. Stanford didn't play in too many big games, and Bama had a couple. In the SEC title game which was the biggest, he had a great performance, against one of the nations best defenses and was one of the main reasons Bama routed Florida. How you handle big pressure games factors a lot into the award, and being that the whole nation had its eyes on that game, I'm sure that pretty much sealed the deal for him being at that point it was a toss-up.

Ingram deserved it because of his seasonal average and how he dominated the SEC Title Game. Glad to see Bama get thier first Heisman Winner and it stay in the SEC.
