Why didn't McCoy win it then? He led his team to a 12-0 record, and the National Champion. I just don't think he is the best player. Am I allowed to have my opinion?

December 13, 200916 yr I liked Gerhart too. Ingram was surrounded with much more talent than Gerhart. Look at this way, Bama has good enough depth at RB to win the SEC with their backups. Stanford is going to their first bowl game in nearly a decade thanks to Gerhart. He was pretty much their team.
December 13, 200916 yr I try and think of it like this. Statistically, Gerhart put up better numbers than Ingram did. He also consistently put up numbers every single game while Ingram had an off game or two but still put up impressive numbers. Records also came into effect as Ingram led Alabama to an undefeated record and an SEC Championship. However, Gerhart led Stanford to a 8-4 record which would hurt him a little. However, to really decided how I would have voted, my thought process went like this... If you took away Gerhart and Ingram from Stanford and Alabama, how would each team do respectively in their games throughout the season? Basically I was looking at just how much each player had an effect on their teams. If you took away Ingram, Trent Richardson just steps up and takes his place. He might not put up the same numbers as Ingram would have but they still would have been very good. If you took away Gerhart, what do you have? Not much IMO and I'm not sure if they would even become bowl eligible as Stanford often had to rely on Gerhart to carry them to victory. In short, I think Gerhart got flat robbed. However, Ingram was a worthy candidate of the award. I think this season just goes to show just how close it was and how no one person was noticeably on another level than anyone else.
