December 11, 200916 yr Notre Dame has got themselves a really good coach who will do very well at ND. It will be interesting to see what concessions were made to land Kelly if any at all. Such things that turned Bob Stoops away according to Paul Daugherty were such things as admissions, JUCO players, training table, and discipline. Was Kelly able to get them in his favor, or was he just smitten to take the job no matter what. As for UC. Under Brian Kelly he took them to their high watermark with their upcoming Sugar Bowl appearance. He took over a program from Minter, to Dantonio and took them to the BCS. But understand this guy knows how to play the game. He is a politician at heart as well as a solid football coach. From the day he complained about lack of media coverage at the Big East Media Days to the denials of job interest, he knows how to play the game...and tells people what they want to hear and their is always an ulterior motive. It is been fairly clear that he had Notre Dame in his sights, for a long time. His saying of no meetings and so forth was silly and many people fell for it. There is too much backroom talk under the surface and these coaches not to know what is going on. What I find disappointing is that he met with ND officials before the regular season ended. I can see after the Pitt game, but before? That not right in my opinion...and UC has the right to be angry over that. Him going to ND not so much, but how he led the players and fans over the last week has been a sham. What has ever happened to the "no comment"? His outburst after the Pitt game was laughable to some in that room, in particular one beat writer, who knew the source to many of these leaks, and that was Brian Kelly himself. I can see him telling the players things like he was going to be here, but for them to find out through the media? Its not Jim Bowden calling Tony Perez in the middle of the night, but it is not a whole lot better. Kelly may be leaving but the program and the infrastructure improvements coming along the way will leave this as a very attractive job. I think Mike Thomas probably had his finger on the pulse and already has his eye on a few. If I were UC, I would tap the CMU connection again and go with Jones. The transition on offense would be seamless and would be a go for the bowl game. They better move quick if it is him because Marshall is making a push for him. Best of Luck to BK.

He meant every word, didn't have to think about it, shot from the hip, and still came off looking like gold. You get so use to politically correct speech, and I didn't feel like that's what he was doing. Great attitude, great focus, and didn't crush the outgoing coach.
