December 10, 200916 yr Coombs is likely to be one of the very few on the staff that stick around, so if an interim coach is going to have to coach the bowl game, he is the best bet. There is zero chance he is the next head coach... I think BK would be smart to take Coombs with him, to keep contacts in Ohio.
December 10, 200916 yr I found this article. If you read at the bottom you will read who they THINK will go. http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1027235 Those are they guys that have been with him a long time outside of Diaco who had short tenures at CMU and UC on his staff. Quinn, Longo, Forrest and Elston are locks to join him IMO...
December 10, 200916 yr Could Quinn, the OC, be the next HC? He'll be on the list but I highly doubt it...

December 10, 200916 yr I would be very surprised if he did...I only ask because I heard talk of the possibility of it earlier today on the radio. They were saying they think Kelly would like to keep him on his staff.
December 10, 200916 yr Didn't Quinn interview for the C. Mich job when Jones got it? Yes. He didn't get that one, and won't get this one either IMO...

December 11, 200916 yr As much as Mike Thomas stressed the need for the Bearcats to be a top tier program when he hired Kelly, I can't really see him choosing anyone but an experienced NCAA head coach. Coombs would love the job...and I think he's likely to be calling the shots as an interim coach if (when) Kelly doesn't coach in the Sugar Bowl, but I'd have to say that neither he, nor Quinn will get the job. I don't think Chris Petersen would leave Boise State...he'd be dumb to make such a lateral move like that. I don't know about Butch Jones or Skip Holtz, as so many Cincinnati media outlets seem to be conjecturing, but I think those too are WAY more likely to accept an offer that Petersen.
December 11, 200916 yr Didn't Kelly coach his first UC game in a bowl game? Perhaps UC will have their new coach on the sidelines for the Sugar Bowl. They had to know he was leaving... therefore their seach most likely started weeks ago. IMO...

I think it would be hard to get a new coach in here, and get this team ready to win a game against Florida. IMO, best bet would be have as many current caoches take control for it.

I don't think they have a chance with a defensive backfield coach as the HC against Florida. A significant beating could hurt UC's recruiting efforts before the new coach steps onto the UC campus. Will be interesting to see how this is all handled.
