December 11, 200916 yr Can you explain why not? Weis had no problem bringing in top 10 recruiting classes even though he didn't have a good football team to sell them on. Brian Kelly is going to be able to get even better players at Notre Dame than he has at UC. Brian Kelly has been successful where ever he has went, which is something Notre Dame has not had in either of the last three coaches. Two of the last three coaches had no head coaching experience at all. I think people are really not being truthful with theirselves if they don't think he will do a good job at Notre Dame. Since the majority of this board is Ohio State fans, or fans of some SEC school. Most people just don't want Notre Dame to be good again, so you all try to convince your selfs that it wont happen. However there honestly is no reason not to believe that he won't do even better than what he has done at UC. The only difference is, if he goes undefeated at Notre Dame he won't have to worry about not getting to play for the title. He will be getting better players, have better facilities, and well Notre Dame plays half of a big ten schedule. Which means there schedule is not that hard as compared to others. So what reason is there for him not being successful at Notre Dame? :thumb:
December 11, 200916 yr Not sure what's going on on ESPN, but UC officials have confirmed that he is gone. Jeff Quinn will be the coach for the Sugar Bowl. Good for them that they didn't let BK live it up....which is what seemed like he wanted to do.
December 11, 200916 yr fwiw...Denny Jansen reported that BK did tell the team prior to the media outburst today.... Totally false. They players were told at 8:20...
December 11, 200916 yr Kelly really dodging the question right now as Chris Fowler has been after him pretty hard to announce that he is indeed going to be the next coach at Notre Dame. Fowler said numerous sources in South Bend and Cinci were reporting this, and Kelly responded by saying there was only two sources and that was himself and Notre Dame. He then said he had nothing to announce and that he is having a great night with his ball club and with all the seniors. Fowler kept trying but Kelly wouldn't budge, even when asked is he would be making any kind of statement in the near future. For some reason he is really no acting like he has the job, although the whole country right now knows or has heard that he is. He told them right before he went on ESPN and several of the team leaders got up and left 15 seconds into his speech. At that point that had all already found out via text messages, ESPN.com on their phones, and twitter.

December 11, 200916 yr Besides Mardy, who else left? Only one I know for sure was Alex Daniels, but I have heard there were a few other SRs that walked out right away...
December 11, 200916 yr Only one I know for sure was Alex Daniels, but I have heard there were a few other SRs that walked out right away... They definetly got the short end of the stick, the biggest game of their life and their coach is no where to be found.
December 11, 200916 yr Good for those players. Pretty busch league when the team finds out through the media. That has always been my biggest beef with Thad Matta...
December 11, 200916 yr "I feel like he did our team an injustice," said Bearcat senior Mardy Gilyard. "Hopefully, he'll pack his things up and get to South Bend in a hurry."
December 11, 200916 yr They definetly got the short end of the stick, the biggest game of their life and their coach is no where to be found. I agree. It was mentioned in the paper on how the NCAA could change off of this, push back the early signing period about a month or two, so where schools looking for a coach are not in such a rush. I think they should also say no one gets to talk to a coach about a possible job opening until his last game of the season. Looks like he did not learn a thing when he left his last job, after saying he learned a lot on how he should have handled it.
December 11, 200916 yr Author I'm thoroughly disappointed in any player that showed such disrespect to their head coach. Alex Daniels' interview on Sportscenter was such a staged and immature act. If you're a supposed senior leader you show respect to the man that helped gain the fame and notoriety that you now have. No one would have heard of Gilyard without BK. No one would have a clue there is a Alex Daniels on UC without BK. They can't hide behind the copout of "we found out from the media." They're products of that media. How many followers does Gilyard have on Twitter? He's using the communication technologies of the world to further his own cause. Now he's complaining because either a)someone leaked it or b)the new media world found out and the word spread? Bogus, immature, and 100% fake anger for the cameras. Did these players complain when their new coach named Brian Kelly coached them in the bowl game in Toronto instead of the Chippewas? No. Stop the fake tears. Stop the fake anger. Get the cameras out of their faces. Obviously, 4 or 5 years of higher education has not helped many of these players cognitive thinking.
December 11, 200916 yr Author A lone ship in the sea of immaturity: Andre Revels said before the banquet that he could not blame Kelly for leaving. “I wouldn’t have one negative thing to say about him (Kelly). I feel like he’s a great guy, he had to do what’s best for his family.” http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20091210/SPT0101/312100083/1064/Report++Kelly+to+Notre+Dame
December 11, 200916 yr This is ridiculous. It's nearly impossible for him to even travel back from ND or NY, wherever he was offered the job, and not tell anyone. Family, friends, travel agents, his agent; heck, any of those people could've said something to someone and it got out. As far as being up front with the kids, everyone's been around this game too long to know that simply doesn't happen. He would've been lambasted for weeks leading up to it, especially considering he may have been talking to them during the week of the biggest game in UC football history, if he would've come out and said he'd accept the job. This is the way it goes, plain and simple. I don't necessary like it but can accept that this is the way things work with coaching.

You do understand BK has been going around for weeks telling kids "Cincy is where I wanna be." "I love Cincinnati" and the players were the VERY last people to find out about him leaving. Most of BGP knew he was leaving before the players did it sounds like.

"I love Cincinnati" and the players were the VERY last people to find out about him leaving. Most of BGP knew he was leaving before the players did it sounds like. Then they were living in denial. They knew this was a real possibility and should have been prepared for it. If he stays then fine but to act like it's such a shock is crazy. The Revels kid acts like the only one with some sense about the situation.
