December 11, 200916 yr First off, in the past I have never really been a UC fan, but I was hoping Kelly would stay, their football lately was good for not only the city but the entire region, and gave those people up in Columbus something to think/and whine about. BK did have control over how it was leaked out, in no way should the players have to hear it from the media. Could he not tell ND that he needs to tell the UC players first, before it gets out to anyone else? As well as telling them that if he cannot tell the UC players first that he will not be coming to ND? One would think ND would appreciate this kind of respect for his former players? But, as Some have said before, it looks like what he said he learned from how he left his last coaching job was yet another lie. I have been a ND fan all of my life, but ever since the way the Lou Holtz situation was handled it has lost some of it's luster for me.
December 11, 200916 yr fwiw...Denny Jansen reported that BK did tell the team prior to the media outburst today.... I hope that is true.
December 11, 200916 yr I hope that is true. I doubt it. Jansen said he congratulated him about the job and he acted like he didn't take it. After they told him they heard from a UC trustee he acknowledged it. Gilyard told someone on the way in he heard from a friend by text and he wasn't happy about it. Jansen later showed an interview w/ Pike and he thought he might stay. If BK didn't tell them before the banquet that's weak. He has put the program in a spot few ever though they'd be, but he treated the kids terribly the last week IMO.
December 11, 200916 yr From what I was told ND agreed to a lot of his demands. So from what I can gather BK tells ND you have to decide before the banquet and ND thought he'd blink first. Apparently as late as 3 oclock or so some at UC believed he would stay and ND decided to lift some restrictions. I'm interested in seeing something official to see who blinked first.
December 11, 200916 yr What everyone already knows. Tonight was about his seniors, plus he and ND want a formal anouncement at a press confrence.
December 11, 200916 yr Tonight was about his seniors, plus he and ND want a formal anouncement at a press confrence. So he can feel special about himself?
December 11, 200916 yr Kelly really dodging the question right now as Chris Fowler has been after him pretty hard to announce that he is indeed going to be the next coach at Notre Dame. Fowler said numerous sources in South Bend and Cinci were reporting this, and Kelly responded by saying there was only two sources and that was himself and Notre Dame. He then said he had nothing to announce and that he is having a great night with his ball club and with all the seniors. Fowler kept trying but Kelly wouldn't budge, even when asked is he would be making any kind of statement in the near future. For some reason he is really no acting like he has the job, although the whole country right now knows or has heard that he is. It's not going to happen but imagine the fallout it would cause if Kelly didn't end up going to coach the Irish and stayed in Cinci. With all the media announcements today, and with all the coverage over the past week or so, it would be a bigger ooops moment than all the reports that Billy Donovan was going to be UK's next coach. Then turn around and take a job with the Magic, only to ultimately stay put at Florida. The coaching game and coaching ladder is a little funny sometimes, but I fully expect without a doubt Kelly to be announced formally soon. He wasn't their first choice, or probably not even one of their top choices, but he is still a good hire. What he has done with the Bearcats is remarkable considering the history of that program. Like UK he has done so without the hlp of 4 and 5 star recruits. Imagine what he will be able to do with the talent that is already at Notre Dame. Plus it is a huge help for recruiting just being there, no matter who the coach is Notre Dame will always get some 4 and 5 stars just because its Notre Dame.
December 11, 200916 yr So he can feel special about himself? It will be the biggest day in his coaching career so why ruin it the night before. Let him live it up.
December 11, 200916 yr Not sure what's going on on ESPN, but UC officials have confirmed that he is gone. Jeff Quinn will be the coach for the Sugar Bowl.
