I applaud your confidence but what you dont realize is you cannot measure future games by past freshman and JV success. The Birds will start training today for next year and kids will develop and step up that you would least expect.

 

I think Beechwood will be very talented but I wouldnt start predicting victories.

they should still be the top Class 3A team competing at the 5A level.

 

Why does get brought up over and over...They would be successful, obviously, at any class level they choose to play at. We know they have 3A size but at the same time they have about 25-30% of their male students playing football....thats where that arguement gets thrown out. Oh, and they don't have a wrestling program to water it down..

HHS will return 5/6 defensive starters or guys that got a lot of playing time. How does the ole saying go. "Defense wins Championships"! (this comes from a defensive guy)

Being the powerhouse that they are, doesn't almost become anti-climatic after the win....it's on to next year. Thankfully, you get to celebrate it for awhile, but come January 1, I'm sure they are on to next year....

This is a very bold prediction for barely fielding a Freshman team in 2009. You can have all the studs in the world but when Highlands start to wear on the Beechies in 2010 and 2011 because of lack of depth, you will rethink your Fairy tale thought process. Go Birds!!!!

Too late...Beechwood already started training for next year.

A little harsh, don't you think? Yes, they are losing 3 outstanding seniors, but remember, the 2008 State Champ team started the year with only one returning starter, Adam Dempsey, and still managed to put together a good line.

 

Coach Turner has worked magic before, and I expect him to do it again next season.

I didn't mean this as a criticism at all... but rather a compliment to this year's O-line. This was definitely a major strength of the team in 2009! They got it done week in and week out (just ask Collinsworth, Bardo, and Fennell!!!).

Good point. Didn't that '07 line contain two players who hadn't played line much or at all in their high school years?

Highlands always finds a way. If you would have told Ryle fans after the first Highlands game that Bardo would not be quarterbacking and Collinsworth would be out in the next match up I think most of them would have been smelling blood in the water. Look what happened, "same old result." Adjustments will be made, players will be developed and again Highlands will be the team to beat in Northern Kentucky next year.
