Great Idea for the Private/Public Split

Featured Replies

Difference is the kid attending Trinity had a choice for an education and chose a different route. The kid (not focused on the parent because those of us in the public schools cannot change the parent no matter how hard we try or want to) has no other choice for meals. If it was the kid who is attending Trinity only shot at an education, I would agree with you. But it is not.

Honestly....I'm so sick of it all, I'm ready to vote us out of the KHSAA so we can all move on and go about our business. I'll guarantee this, though....if the goal is for the public schools to win the state championships every year, and this will somehow hurt the private schools....it's simply a pipe dream. Private schools have CREATED THEMSELVES AND THEIR SUCCESS. They'll continue to do so, despite any obstacles other's may decide to put in front of them.

It is a choice and what is wrong with that? A school like Trinity should never become a haven for just the rich. By eliminating financial aid that is exactly what you are saying. If the choice comes down to abandoning the KHSAA or abandoning forty percent of our kids, the choice is easy.

You know, I think I just came up with a solution that would solve all of these problems. Any schools that don't like it that the KHSAA championships are open to all schools should leave. Then they could do whaterver they wanted.

It is really an unfortunate situation for both sides.

The main problem is within the fact that Kentucky is not that big of a state (population wise). Disparities between private and public schools are going to be, and continue to be displayed (especially among T and X). But, as someone already mentioned, there is nothing that can be done and our population base does not support any of these proposed ideas, imo.

It is not very sensible to argue that schools need to "work harder" to beat these schools and "since they are not far off in school population" the playing field will be equal on the gridiron. You are kidding yourself if you think this. I support schools such as Trinity, St. Xavier, or any other magnet institution because of the opportunities they present for kids, as should everyone else. If Kentucky was blessed with about 30 more of these schools across the state, then we may have something to go on, but at this time, it has very little merit.

The point is, they would become the T and X. The Louisville kids that valued a State Championship (face it, SOME of the kids at T and X are not there because of life long tradition) would go to the magnet schools instead of the privates IMO. I guess it would depend on how T and X would turn the recruiting spicket on, really though...

How about we just start a class for all the people who want to whine about the privates and make it a "public only" class. The rest of us can get on with the task of making our programs the best they can be.

That's fine too! Let's just do whatever and move on, though. All this "threatening" is getting old.

In the playoffs alone I agree, but beating all of the Big III in the last 5 Years has been done by who else???

On the other side, who else has played them all every year for the last 5 years.

For starters, Manual hasn't beaten St. Xavier since 2000, which encompasses the last five seasons. According to the KHSAA scoreboard site, Manual is 2-11 against Trinity, Male and St. Xavier in that span ... 2-12 if you count this year's loss to Trinity. Manual has only played Trinity annually since 2003.

Does that put them on par with the so-called Big 3? Hardly.

And even if they had managed to beat St. Xavier in the last five years, would that change Manual's status? How many teams have had the opportunity to play those teams in recent years? Manual has to play two of them because they're in the same district. Programs outside of Louisville don't have the same opportunities.

Since 2000 ... Meade County (1-4) has a better record, percentage-wise, than Manual against those teams. So do Dixie Heights (1-1) and North Hardin (1-3), as well as Lexington Catholic (2-4, counting this year's loss to St. Xavier) and Hopkinsville (1-5 after losing to Male two weeks ago). By that standard, shouldn't they also merit inclusion among the new elite?

There is no way to slice it that eliminates T and X as the best in KY. Eliminate them from the 4A Title Hunt, and they simply become a bigger monster outside of the KHSAA. I say it's time to just do it, and get it over with so we don't have to have the same debate every 3 months...

You hit it right on!!!! T and X will become regional monsters if this happens. I hope it happens...the time has come.

1. this is not a X t issue, think about the smaller private schools like Desales etc...they cannot afford to travel to play

2. with the exception of the last 2 yrs on the t side, we are consistantly weak in basketball and continue to play the public schools, and don't complain about it

3. why are Male - highlands- Scott- Henderson so good, what do they do different??

4. how about the money the Jefferson county schools make when X-t visit their sites

5. how about the money Khsaa will loose when less than 500 people show up for a 4a final, I am pretty sure the AD from the private schools can keep and devide everything they make from their palyoffs

6. To quote Jack N "You want us on that line, you need us on that line :flame:

7. think about Male winning 9 of next 10 4a crowns????

8. X and t's student aid is determined by and independent agency where the applicants name is absent, no bearing on athletics

How about we just start a class for all the people who want to whine about the privates and make it a "public only" class. The rest of us can get on with the task of making our programs the best they can be.

Every once in a while a program like Meade has a special group of kids. like in 01 and 91. We will play the X's and T's in the playoffs if we are lucky enough to get there. And we will loose in most cases. We can't compete with these teams year in and year out that is just the facts. While we wait for that special group, X and T just reload with the talent pool that they pull in and never miss a beat. Most of our kids go both ways and play special teams. While X and T has for the most part a platoon for every aspect of the game. It is all about the talent . We have 1 or 2 a year on our team that may play junior college, while it is the norm for thier players to have 10 to 15 to play on Saturdays next year.............1-4 is not a record to be proud of even up here in Meade Co

I understand the Public school point of view. I also understand the Private school point of view. The bottom line is this- The public schools and private schools are different as we all know, but every school system have their own crosses to bare. For example, some people can't afford to send their kid to a private school, which might not economically sound for them. Not everyone can have the same opportunities in life as others, but when that opportunity comes take advantage of it. The Private schools do tons of fund-raising that some small business people start locking their doors when they see us coming around. Their are a ton of parents who sacrifice to put their kids in school. Yes, alot of people send their kids to Catholic schools who are not Catholic because they know their is more structure and discipline involved and if you don't believe me I know, I have worked in both places. I am not saying all public schools are like this and you all know as well as I do it starts from the top. That is why I think the Catholic schools structure is better because they are taught from the same moral values the Catholic church in Rome teaches. Yes, you do hear about a few bad apples in the Catholic church, but I guarantee you the priests were taught a lot better and they went off and did their own thing because they left their basic structure and moral values of the church, which is selfish.

Anyway, my point is their are whammies on both sides of the fence. If they want to kick the Catholic schools out fine. I promise you, in 2 yrs the KHSAA will have us back because of the economics of the whole thing. Money from gates. :ylsuper:

Are there even enough private high schools in Kentucky to even be having this discussion?
