November 30, 200916 yr Sumlin seems to similar to Krags IMO. Need to go in a different direction IMO. Sumlin may have a great run at U of L, but he is basically the same guy Krags was when he was hired, IMO. Offensive guy having success at a mid-major. He may be a great coach, but I don't know that he has earned to go to the top of the list on a BCS job. He may be the reality of what they can get though, so you never know.
November 30, 200916 yr Do you check Petrino's roster? I would say at least 50 kids from Florida. At that time, there was opportunity for U of L to bring in a lot of those Florida and Alabama players. With U of L now in the Big East, that opportunity no longer exists.

Not sure, UofL has always been able to go into Fla. and bring players back. That started when Howard was brought in back in the day. Until this last coach.
November 30, 200916 yr U of L was able to bring in several good players who were being recruited by Miami, Florida State, and Florida. The reason some of these players came to U of L was because they could take academic non-qualifiers at that time, and those schools could not. They are now restricted to take non-qualifiers in the Big East and thus, the Florida/Alabama pipeline has dried up. That is not on Coach Krag.
November 30, 200916 yr Does anyone else think that Virginia coming open hurts U of L? I think UVa is a more attractive job than U of L and they may be looking at the same applicant pool. U of L has bad timing in opening the job, IMO. UVa is open, and with Kansas and Notre Dame likely to come open and the other possibilities (Illinois, Maryland, Arizona St., Texas A&M), it just seems like there will be a lot of teams competing for the same type of candidate and I don't know what puts U of L ahead of any of the other schools on the list. I wasn't a fan of keeping Coach Krag, I just think that it may be tough to get some of the names we have mentioned if some of the jobs I mentioned earlier are all open at the same time. Thoughts?

It will hurt them. Virginia is probably the more attractive job, but I don't understand why. As for the Krags firing, I hate it for him but it had to be done. The U of L program was not where it needed to be for many factors. Only a change could fix that IMO.
November 30, 200916 yr Following the Gators' 37-10 win over Florida State on Saturday, Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong was asked about the U of L opening being a distraction before the SEC title game. Strong told Florida Today, "What can I do? If they are going to hire me, they are going to hire me. But my job right now, let's go beat 'Bama." Sounds like Strong wants to be interviewed.
November 30, 200916 yr Does L'ville give Weis a call?[/quote Maybe, if he starts working for Papa John's Pizza. Coaching searches makes one hungry.

Sumlin has a more impressive resume than Krags. He's worked with a lot of big time coaches. Spent a few years as the OC at OU too.
November 30, 200916 yr UVa has Notre Dame-type admission standards, so I wouldn't be too sure that it's that much more attractive a job.

U of L may need a defensive guy rather than an Offensive minded coach. Strong will bring in a good defense and being a Meyer disciple will have an effective offense as well. I think he's the total package for U of L.
November 30, 200916 yr UVa has Notre Dame-type admission standards, so I wouldn't be too sure that it's that much more attractive a job. It's not more attractive, and neither is KU. ND is onviously, but UofL and ND aren't competing for the same coaches. TJ is great at getting coaches, he made a mistake with Krags and I truely don't think it happens again. He's gonna hit a homerun, IMO.:thumb:
