Let's not get too carried away on Highlands. LOL ... kind of funny to say that on here. I am referring to the "unbeatable, move up in class" type of comments. This year's team may be unbeatable but HHS is not doing this every year. Look at last year's playoffs ... round 1 HHS 28 Bryan Station 22 in a game HHS was lucky to win; HHS 35 Johnson Central 21; and it was 21 - 15 in the 4th quarter of the title game. In 2005 and 2006 they didn't even make it to the state semifinals. Give credit to the current seniors of HHS. There is some great talent there that has made them virtually unbeatable but they will graduate this year. So keep it in perspective. HHS has been beat many times in the past and they will be beat many times in the future. It is up to their opponents to step up to the challenge because they are beatable (but not this year).

 

When you put as much effort into the program as Highlands does there is no "gettin lucky," there is no reliance on luck. They won because of the heads up play of a lineman, (Grubbs). If they lost that game it wouldn't have been because Bryan Station got lucky.

I also want to add that every Highlands fan that I met yesterday definitely showed class and grace in winning. I was indifferent because of some of the post I had read on here prior to the game, but you guys deserve all the accolades that come to this team. I feel our boys now know what the measuring stick is and how much they have to work to get to that point and believe they are up to the task! I know the score is not how we wanted it to be but people outside of Pulaski may not realize how special this bunch has been to the school. When they were freshmen, they had to endure a 2-8 season ( with a lot them playing). The journey has lost some good players to injury and other problems but they knew that they wanted to win and committed to doing so. We were truly honored to travel up there to see them play on what was the biggest stage for this bunch yet. I know that they have put this ship in the right direction and now it is up to "new" seniors to continue the fight! Good luck to the Bluebirds next week. You have a new fan -until we play you again next year!

On a lighter note, why on God's green earth did the coach, or whoever it was on PC's sideline, talk trash to Collinsworth before the opening kick-off??? My Dad, who has not seen a Highlands game all year and couldn't name a kid on the team said, "Why's he yelling at that kid? If I was that kid, I would be peeved." I told my Dad that that was Collinsworth, and that that coach just made a huge mistake. Three plays later he takes it 70+ yards. I understand not wanting to be intimidated, but an adult talking trash to a 17or 18 year old is ridiculous.

I'll tell you what was interesting , the chain gang came out on the field to measure twice in the 1st quarter. Wow, thats a first!!!!

My favorite was the one when after PC took possession of the ball on their 35 after the Highlands kick off went out of bounds. I guess it was after a 3rd down play that the ball was spotted 6 or so inches shy of the 45. They brought out the chains. Why? If it wasn't touching the 45 it wasn't a first down...No chains needed here.:idunno:

I had a pretty good angle and it looked like he planted to throw and the ankle just rolled under on him with nobody even close to him. I've seen that before with players with the bad ankles. Once you do it, the odds of it happening again goes way up that it happens again and again. Really too bad, I hope he is ok soon.

 

My angle wasn't good, so I'm just guessing based on how quickly he went down. I've got break-away ankles, so I know what you mean as far as how it can happen again and again.

Very disappointed in the fact that the Web cast did not go off live last nite. For a full week this live cast had been planned and talked about throughout the community and the schoold district but unfortunately because of some internal glitch the Webcast was not able to go live apparently because Highlands does not have the technical support nor the skills to assist and advise the Webcast crew. The crew has been working hard for three weeks now behind the scenes preparing for the big game and NOTHING. A few hours before kickoff the crew was basically told they were on their own with getting live. These guys are not technical gurus or computer specialists they are common guys that sell things like real estate, salad dressings and clean swimming pools for a living and they just simply want to bring the Birds live to you. Its not that the district doesnt have the tools, equipment or the technology but simply not the personnel or support to utilize perhaps some of the best equipment money can buy. This is a real concern to me not just as a Football fan but as a tax paying, private funding donor citizen that our money is sitting dormant and not being used to the fullest extent. Our Superintentent of Schools pushed big for this type of technology in our schools and we gave it to him. Now, its time to use it and the problem is there apparently isnt anyone who knows how to drive the bus. These guys were willing to step up to the plate and bring Highlands Football live for all those not fortunate enough to attend the games, such as the elderly, sick and those relocated Highlands fans not able to attend the game and someone other than the Volunteers just simply did not perform their duties and dropped the ball. Highlands Football is the best in the state of KY and I would like to think that with a little effort and commitment the District can make the Webcast part of that Tradition on Friday nites and give those Highlands faithful what they want. 2005 and 2006 squads played during the non-watered down 4A classes. I think that is what most are requesting... a return back to more competitive play during the playoffs.

The "three amigos" have worked hard over the last several weeks to prepare themselves for the webcast. There is no doubt that it will be first class from start to finish... real estate, salad dressings and pool cleaning? I oft wandered what they did for a living!

 

On a side note, as of last Saturday the person they jusy hired to run the communications department, I will leave his name out of this for now, was not even aware of the attempt to webcast the games. He seemed very excited about the news... has kids that are taking journalism classes, etc. I think it just boils down to lack of communication with the folks with the technical knowledge...

To the best of my knowledge, CovCath offered their help, as it's a little harder to do than some people think!

 

That is one reason I get upset when some come on BGP's rag on the CovCath crew without their schools doing a Internet feed.

 

BTW if you want to do a Internet Broadcast from WKy it going to cost you some $$$ as the KHSAA charges everybody, even schools own non profit web-cast, for bringing the games back to their fans!
