I think Urban Meyer is ND's next head coach.

I'll take B.Kelly to ND. They will put a full-court press on Meyer no doubt, I just can't see him leaving. I'd like for Charlie to get to stay, but the Navy loss is probably going to be the final nail in the coffin, IMO. I think Kelly or Petersen would do as well as anyone.

As I said in the other thread Kelly or Meyer would be good fits. The only question with Meyer is can he get his players into ND? Either way CW showed you can get talent into ND, that is not the issue. There is a lot of talent in South Bend right now and whoever gets the job is going to be successful right away.

 

Jon Gruden could either be really good or another failed NFL coach, but he reminds me of Pete Carroll. It's a roll of the dice.

Dane Crist would look really good and be a great fit into Brian Kelly's offense.

The olnly way Weis has a shot at staying around is if he beats wins out against three good teams and then wins his bowl game.

 

What worries me about Kelly is his recruiting. He doesn't get any big name talent and that is needed to get to the level that ND wants to be.

Actually, I agree with #3.

It's appears that Kelly's talent, while perhaps not big-name, is better than what Charlie Weis has in South Bend. If you can get talent (Kelly: check), if you can coach (Kelly: check), then you will win no matter where you are.

But he wins with the talent that he does have. Besides don't you think that it might be just a tad bit easier to bring top talent into South Bend that it is at Cincinnati. Regardless, if Kelly stays at UC you will start to see an improvement in recruiting, kids will want to be a part of his program. Just imagine if he could keep all of the GLC kids at home. I know Notre Dame has two more coming in next year. Lot of local talent around UC.

Meyer wasn't a "huge" recruiter until he got to UF.

I say zero chance Meyer goes to ND.

I think the only real reason would be his ego. Might want to be known as the man that puts ND back on the college football map. He is already getting plenty of money.

I think the Notre Dame revitalization would be the biggest reason, Irish Cat. Coaching is ego and Notre Dame is at the top of the list, no matter what their status is. Very similar to the opening at Kentucky for basketball last spring - people with big egos want that challenge. Meyer has the ego; does he want the challenge?

Another reason is fame. I know he is already very famous but Lou Holtz won one NC but is one pf the most famous HCs. If he won his title elsewhere he would be no where near as popular.
