As for the first thought about Dixie playing up to their potential, I don't quite get the concept. If the entire season for a team (any team actually) is marked by inconsistent results, why is it necessary to say they aren't playing up to their potential?

Big guys, and as of the beginning of the season, the starters were all returning from last year. Some play both ways, or at least they did in the first game with Highlands.

The first regular season game, Dixie was right with Highland's in the first quarter. In the second quarter, a couple quick fumbles turned the momentum around in short order - Collingsworth scored 21 points in like 4 minutes? In addition, a few key Dixie players came out during that game with minor injuries but are back 100%.

 

If all the Dixie talent plays to their potential, anything can happen. (I KNOW Highlands fans 100% don't believe Highlands can lose, :ohbrother:but Dixie fans believe they could - sorry!! :irked:)

Yes, an occasional great play here and there, but more often than not, the usual Dixie performance.

Bird, I have to agree with you here. Even IF Dixie could play up to their potential they would have to execute a near perfect game to keep it close. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Dixie knock off the Birds. I just don't think the Colonels are up to it and I'll honestly be surprised if they are within 21 points.

It seems to be a mental thing with Highlands IMO. When a bad thing occurs to Dixie, they seem to be able to overcome it. I'm not saying they win the game, but they continue to be competitive. However, when they play Highlands, it seems like it's a snowball effect. You can basically write them off as soon as something bad happens. They came to play during the regular season, but as soon as the INT was thrown, it seemed like everything just started going wrong. Players seemed to get down on themselves.

I think that Highlands fumbled the first two times they had the ball or things could have been a lot different in the first quarter.

The HHS-Dixie game on October 2 was only 7-0 in favor of HHS at the end of the first quarter.

 

At one point in the second quarter the score was 10-3 in favor of HHS.

 

The game was closer than the 52-9 final score might indicate.

 

Dixie had 200 yards rushing and 194 passing...that's not that shabby.

 

Dixie quarterback Ryan Wilson was 19 of 34 for 162 yards and one INT. He also rushed for 118....and he also scored the Dixie touchdown and kicked the field goal.

 

He's probably improved his game since October 2 and so have his receivers.

 

Dixie lost 3 fumbles and had one interception.

 

That's probably the key "stat" for the game.

 

If Dixie can eliminate the turnovers...a big "if" against a stellar HHS defense...this could be a closer game than many think.

Bruns, Abner and Rosenhagen, if I am not mistaken.

 

All 3 of these young men make big hits and big plays. Not to mention the rest of the defense like Roller, Dierig, Alford, Seidl, and Sullivan fly around the field making plays. Good luck to both teams!
