Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. November 5, 200916 yr I think they shot the main guy and have 2 others. Sounds like they aren't sure if he had a name change and was Islamic. Prayers go out. This is tragic! It was people being deployed and brought home. I couldn't imagine if it was somebody that was deployed and just getting home. The excitement for families turned tragic makes me feel sick.

My guess is that his religion will just be anecdotal to this. I'd guess that the fear of war after hearing so many horror stories finally got to him. Rolling Stone had a story recently about PTSD and how ill-prepared the military is to handle it. This guy heard about it and dealt with it everyday.
November 6, 200916 yr Turns out the shooter is not dead, but is in custody and even though he was shot "his death is not imminent". They also believe he was the only shooter. They said they cannot rule it out, but no indication this was a terroristic act. As of right now, the shooter has not been interrogated.

November 6, 200916 yr Everyone focuses on the physical scars of war but PTSD is worse IMO. My father was a vietnam vet 101st Airborn and it is my theory that when he came back from Vietnam in 1970 he suffered from it but back then nobody treated it. Many of the soldiers self medicated if you know what I mean. He is now 62 and has frontal lobe damentia and doesnt speak. He was sprayed with agent orange and earned a silver star as well as purple heart after holding off a firefight of 15 men while a chopper made a rescue attempt. I cant even imagine what he saw and experienced and how that mentally probably stayed with him over the past 40 yrs. They really need to get these soldiers in treatment as soon as they return. Its going to be an epidemic shortly.
November 6, 200916 yr If this guy survives he will never make it to his court-martial. This happened at Bragg a while back, and the shooter mysteriously "died" while in custody. My college roommate is a Major at Hood and he is OK, but has a couple injured from his unit, one critically.
