Everyone focuses on the physical scars of war but PTSD is worse IMO. My father was a vietnam vet 101st Airborn and it is my theory that when he came back from Vietnam in 1970 he suffered from it but back then nobody treated it. Many of the soldiers self medicated if you know what I mean. He is now 62 and has frontal lobe damentia and doesnt speak. He was sprayed with agent orange and earned a silver star as well as purple heart after holding off a firefight of 15 men while a chopper made a rescue attempt. I cant even imagine what he saw and experienced and how that mentally probably stayed with him over the past 40 yrs.

 

They really need to get these soldiers in treatment as soon as they return. Its going to be an epidemic shortly.

This guy didn't have PTSD, he hadn't even deployed. This was to be his first deployment. He may suffer from PTSD now, he saw more combat in this one day (caused by him) that he may have seen in the whole 12 months of deployment.

Regarding the rants against the war he supposedly made the big question relates to who knew of these rants.

The news reports I've heard are saying his ties to Islam have nothing to do with the incident. This makes sense because Islam is a religion of peace and understanding.

Watched and taped fox from the get go. While flipping back and forth to the others, :ohbrother: is all I can say. Those other networks were speculating about how it could've been a jihadist act etc etc. I always yell at my room mate for only watching fox. I told him he needs to watch everyone to get a broad perspective, well the other guys let us down in newscasting yesterday. Fox did mess up the fact that the shooter wasn't dead and a few other minor things but wow the other stations were horrible.

I agree with this however this soldier had never been over seas, he was a state side psychiatrist due to ship out shortly.

He's not a first hand victim but second hand. More accuratley he probably was waging an internal war between his faith, and processing what he was helping these others process. Care givers are at grave risk of entering the dark corridors themselves if they do not have the proper skills or support to keep from internalizing others' issues.

 

I'm not trying to rationalize responsibility for this guy's actions. He alone is responsible for the horrific way he reacted to his internal struggle. This is tragic anyway we look at it and the truth is IMO that we allow hindsight to reveal "what we should have done" in seeing the flags when it's harder to see them in present/real time.

 

My prayers go out to the families of these victims. :cry:

I would like to blame it on him . I can't see where he had any knowledge. The Army didn't have a clue, thats concerning.

No different than past prez in recent history. I remember Bush being blamed for the bridge collapsing (in MN,WI??) a while back.
