I don't see the distinction between the two as very helpful. Things are rights because we declare them rights. Other things are privileges because we leave them as such. Is it a right? Not right now. Could it become a right? If Congress says so, then it will be.

I agree. Though I think he may have meant to say "should Healthcare be a Right".

I can see both sides of the argument, but I lean more towards the side that it should be a right. I realize there is a lot of corruption in the system which even furthers this divide. If you are a hard working Average Joe, do you deserve the same and fair coverage as that of person that makes a whole lot of money?

Healthcare is a right. Healthcare reform is a left.

The Constitution lists your rights in the Bill of Rights and healthcare is not listed.

In fact when some Dem leaders are asked where in the Constitution do they derive their legal basis for healthcare reform, they stutter and spit all over theirselves.

If you want it to be a right, pass a constitutional amendment.

Healthcare should be a right.

Good idea! I'm going to pass that along to the appropriate offices! :thumb:

bballfamily, you are correct in that the right to health care is not currently outlined in the Bill of Rights. Rights can exist without explication. In fact, some rights, like the right to privacy, have been firmly established by the courts and common law and yet are not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. The Founding Fathers declared that we are "endowed with unalienable rights, among them are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." There is no question that in order to have life we must have health. Yet there has been only limited constitutional language specific to this right.

To answer the question-no healthcare is not a right but should be.

Simple question. Is healthcare a right or a privilege?

Define healthcare.

I have no problem with helping people with health care needs. I just oppose the 2000 page bill. It seems no one understands this bill, it has potential for changing our current system that is working for the vast majority of Americans, costs too much (no matter what they claim) and is run by an inefficient organization, the US government.

Why should healthcare be a right?

Why should healthcare be a right?

Doesn't the Constitution require that prisoners receive healthcare?

Rights are God given. They come without cost to another man. The government can not give to me without taking from you.
