We have the power and technology to save lives... as long as you can afford to compensate the man or women who learned how to do it an how to make it.

According to Nancy Pelosi if you don't pay for healthcare you should go to jail. Ergo, healthcare is not a right, it's an obligation.

The social contract is to protect individual rights from evil individuals who would take those rights from us. There no such right to steal our liberties. All the left wants to do is have government run rough shod over our liberties, because some have unrealistic utopian ideas. The social contract should protect those who love freedom from those with the belief that the government should run people lives.

Do you read much Hobbes or Locke??? Social contract also prevents private entities from encroaching on our rights, like monopolies keeping us from having free markets. Also, if you are a social darwinist, like many conservatives are (which I find ironic since many are also anti-Darwinists in the biological world) then you would believe that the full extension of my rights might require me to oppress you because you are weak, or vice versa.

Some people seem to be talking about health care and others about health insurance. I believe doctors take an oath to provide health care to those who need it. I'm sure they expect to be paid for the care they provide though.

 

Health insurance in my opinion is not a right and shouldn't necessarily be a requirement. Some people (the very wealthy or the young and healthy) choose to self insure.

 

A distinction that many don't see or choose to ignore.

Believe it or not, some people make a choice not to buy insurance or buy the minimum for a catastrophic event because they are young and healthy. They think they're going to be just fine, then something happens. Who's fault is that?

 

Others aren't willing to give up their cellphones, cable TV, trips to the movies or restaurants and so forth. Again, who's fault is that?

 

Yes, I know some truly cannot afford it and I agree that some sort of safety net should be available for them. I agree that some reform is severely needed. But health insurance is not a right IMO and government controlled insurance will be nothing short of a financial disaster for this country.

There is no monopoly in the health-care industry with hundreds of insurance companies. Since health-care is not a right, I do not wish to be burdened by having to pay for others, other than in extreme situations, if their family is not capable of taking care of them. For example those who are mentally or physically disabled or in an extreme difficult economic times. The Republicans have offered an alternative program, which may not be perfect, but is less invasive of our freedom to make our own choices and to be responsible for ourselves.

People need to return to the belief they are responible for their own lives and not be dependent on government.

I just read on the Drudge Report that Pelosi has included in the health-care bill that if you do not buy an insurance policy, you could potentially go to jail. Talk about wiping our individual liberties. There is no way anyone could support that, unless you believe the people are here to serve the state.
