Time for the KHSAA to wake-up and realize that 99.9% of the 1st round games are an embarassment to the players, parents and communities of the losing team. Attendance is very low, morale quickly changes after the 1st Qtr and the contest becomes one head coach trying to do everything from preventing injuries and the other is trying everything he can do from his player inflicting injuries! I disagree. There are more than a few first round games in every class that are going to be fun competitive games and there will be upsets in round one I am sure. The 1 vs 4 games are not competitive 90% of the time but many of the other games are. And I believe there are #4 seeds that beat #1 seeds - Simon Kenton was 6A state runner-up last year as a #4 seed.

He is already in really good shape. I am sure he will run a lot of the week of practice when he returns, if he already isn't running.

Yep, it was the first round. As Voice of Reason stated, that was one of those 10 percenters that are / were competitive. :thumb:

There were 15 games in round 1 last year that the #3 or #4 seed won. There were another 14 first round games that the higher seed won but the margin of victory was 2 TD's or less. In the 2 years of 6 class football, multiple #4 seeds have won games both years. In fact, Montgomery County won their first round game as a #4 seed in 2007.

With roughly 100 games being played in the first round, wouldn't it be closer to 30% of the games that were either won by the 3rd or 4th seed or won by the 1st or 2nd seed but with a margin of 14 points or less (15 upsets and 14 wins by for favorite by two tds or less)?

 

Can't speak for Henry, but on this point I'm not on "your side". I love the fact that regardless of the outcome of a game, a whole lot of kids are getting at least one more week to play the game they love. Some fans might not like it, but who cares about the fans any way. It's about the kids getting to play a game that they love and either pulling off a huge upset or giving the favorite a really run for their money. :banana:
