With roughly 100 games being played in the first round, wouldn't it be closer to 30% of the games that were either won by the 3rd or 4th seed or won by the 1st or 2nd seed but with a margin of 14 points or less (15 upsets and 14 wins by for favorite by two tds or less)?

Let's see: there are 96 first round games. Therefore, 15 upsets and 14 close wins = 29 games. So yes, approx. 30.21% of the games were upsets or close wins. :thumb:

Odd looking bunch of games. Did something happen to this team in mid-September like injuries or illness? They were 2-2 and while not exactly looking like a potential sleeper, at least looked like a team capable of putting a decent amount of points on the board. Mason County and GRC aren't patsies, and those games weren't blowouts. Anyone got an idea?

 

Montgomery Co and GRC are huge rivals. They always play their best game against us. They really want it that bad.

Highlands should roll. Dale won't run it up, so the JV and possibly some freshman could get some reps. Reps for these guys on both teams is valuable for next year. The four team playoff system has flaws, but is much better than the old system. I have enjoyed watching Tolles grow as a QB and how the Fennell kid as stepped up. The Birds haven't missed a beat.

Time for my "Lou Holtz" type post, but after watching Montgomery they have some really nice football players, particularly on defense. Their defensive backs in particular are fast and talented, and really come up hard on running plays. It's been a while since I've seen 5 down defensive linemen. Don't know if they'll do it against Highlands, but such can be difficult to run against. Running backs and TE are going to have to have a spectacular game blocking if we want to move the ball on the ground. Their Offense reminds me somewhat of Withrow. Talented players that can score if their game is "on". If they don't turn the ball over, limit their mistakes and if Highlands does turn the ball over and makes mistakes, this game will be a lot closer than a lot of people are expecting. They played Ashland very close until the last 2 and half minutes of the first half. It was 0-0 until then. Seemed like fatigue played a role in the second half although I can't know if that was actually the case. Birds better make sure they protect the football because Montgomery Co. is going to try and strip the ball every play.

I thought Fennell was a really good runner last year and could have started at most schools. He is a really hard runner who does not go down easily plus he has excellent moves and cuts. Highlands does not miss much at all with Fennell, Streeter and Towles in the backfield.

Congrats to both teams for making it to the playoffs. Should be fun to watch two very different styles of defense and how the Birds offense handles the eight-man DLine the Tribe will throw at them tonight. Special teams could be huge for the Birds.

Can't speak for Henry, but on this point I'm not on "your side". I love the fact that regardless of the outcome of a game, a whole lot of kids are getting at least one more week to play the game they love. Some fans might not like it, but who cares about the fans any way. It's about the kids getting to play a game that they love and either pulling off a huge upset or giving the favorite a really run for their money. :banana:
