October 28, 200916 yr ^^ I don't necessarily think that the Heisman should only go to a player who's team only loses a game or two at most. The best player in the country is the best player regardless of team record, IMO.

The best player in the country is the best player regardless of team record, IMO. That is not what the award is though. It is the best player on a title contender or at least a team close. That may not be the actual description, but that is what it has turned into. Especially for someone on defense, you better make some plays that everyone knows about ala Woodson in 97 (who also scored three TD's on offense that year) and be on a very good team.

I wouldn't vote Suh their either. Suh is great, but others do more for their teams. So I guess maybe, wins are a little bit of an indicator. :thumb:

October 28, 200916 yr Taylor Mays is overrated and here's why: People think he's better than Berry? He's good, but he's not all world like he is made out to be. He has no ball skills (2 INT's the last 3 seasons), and is basically a glorified LB. Berry gives you so much more. Troy Polamalu hardly ever had interceptions when he was at USC, either. This is the type of defense they run. In my very humble (and extremely biased) opinion, what Mays has done this year in terms of defensive cohesion is nothing short of remarkable. He was the ONLY returning starter from a unit that lost 8 players to the NFL, and has single-handedly whipped a frenzy into a new defense that has been excellent this year.

Eric Berry is much, much better IMO. He isn't the physical freak that Mays is, but I think Berry gives you the entire package. Mays is the 2nd best though, I just don't think he compares well to Berry.
October 28, 200916 yr ^^^Also, I don't they he can be compared to Troy Polamalu. Polamalu can do things that no one else can at that position, and I think if he stays healthy is going to end up as one of the top handful of safeties to ever play in the league. Mays has great physical tools, but he just doesn't have the ball skills. JMO.
October 29, 200916 yr Snead was over-hyped when he came to Texas, and is still over-hyped at Ole Miss.

The best player in the country is the best player regardless of team record, IMO. Should be. However, if I am not mistaken Paul Horung (Notre Dame, Bishop Flaget HS) was the only person to win the award and play for a team with a .500 or worse record. While you are right on what it should be, ... it is what it is.
October 29, 200916 yr I know that I'll for sure take a beating on this one.... Micah Johnson, I have thought this for a while...
October 29, 200916 yr I know that I'll for sure take a beating on this one.... Micah Johnson, I have thought this for a while... On the UK fan base level, I would agree. I really like Micah, but he's just a good LB, not a great one.
October 29, 200916 yr I'm just glad Claussen hasn't came up in this thread. The difference a year makes.
