Most Overrated Players

Featured Replies

For this season yes he is overrated, and I don't see how you can argue that...

Now for his career he is not overrated, I mean those are great accomplishments. He is going to go down as one of the best of all time. Now do I really think he is one of the best football players of all time, or do I think he was put in one of the best possible situations to succeed over many other players. I tend to go with the second option. I mean Urban Meyer so far has a system that makes every QB play great in it. He made Alex Smith a first round pick, he made Chris Leak who had underachieved for his career into a National Champion QB, and now Tebow. So is it really the player that is so great, or the system that they play in. I mean do you all think say like last year if you put a Colt McCoy at QB for Florida, or I can't remember his name but the Washington QB at QB that they still win a title? I know I think that they still would, and honestly might have been even better. Both those guys can run, and both are probably actually better passers than him. I mean you could put either one of those guys on this years Florida team, and Florida is probably better because their passing game IMO would be better.

I know when I look at a player and determine how good they are, I like to think of how they might do in another situation. Put Tebow at Washington, I don't think we ever really would have heard the name Tebow that much at all. He would have been a very average QB like he has this year. So far this year for the first time in his career, with not having completely great players around him, he has struggled and been very unimpressive. So we have seen him struggle with less, while we have seen other still find ways to produce and do really well with less than what he has. I just have a hard time saying he is one of the best players of all time, when you seriously probably could have put a few other QB's in for him the last few years and they probably would have been as successful and maybe even more successful. That system he plays in, is just a great system and so far has made every QB look great and possibly even better than they really are. Here is a question how many times have you seen Tebow throw a pass, and you just went wow what a great throw how did he fit that throw in there? I know I never have seen that from him, if he completes a pass its usually to a guy that is pretty open and not in a tight area like other QB's can fit it in.

Your system quarterback argument is garbage. Why is it only a system when it's the spread or the air raid? No one knocks Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Jimmy Clausen, Matt Barkley, or Kellen Moore for being in a "system". And why play give and take with quarterbacks saying "well put Tebow at Washington and Locker at Florida and Washington is the same as they are with Locker."? Isn't the whole point if recruiting to recruit the players that best fit your system?

Tim Tebow IS a good quarterback, and he would be in any system IMO. Would Peyton Manning be good at Florida? Graham Harrell? Matt Leinart? How about any other pocket passer?

I guess that you think Dennis Dixon, Vince Young, and Pat White were system quarterbacks, and overrated as well. If you really think that it's a system because it's not a traditional drop back, or hand the ball off constantly running under center, then you should watch some more football.

EVERY QUARTERBACK IS A SYSTEM QUARTERBACK. NOT JUST TIM TEBOW, AND OTHER SPREAD QUARTERBACKS.

I don't know why you keep saying that every QB is a system QB. I mean I basically said that, and even said a QB is determined by what system they play in. Which is my whole point about all this. Tebow was put in a system where he was probably given the best chance to succeed and do great than any other QB. Which all the credit goes to Urban Meyer, that is why he is a great coach he puts a system in place that is best for the type of QB he has. Which is my point, I think if you put some other QB's in that system, and we are talking about them just the same and how great they are. However I don't think we would even be talking about if Tebow could make it in the NFL or not, if he was playing somewhere else. Which is my whole point, I have a hard time saying someone is one of the best football players ever, when he was probably given one of the best chances to succeed. I think there are a few other QB's in college since he has been in college that are actually better than him. They are just not in a system that best gives them a chance to do as great, and don't have as great of players around him. I mean just look at this year, Tebow for the first time is not surronded by other great players like a Percy Harvin, and for the first time in his career he only looks a little better than average.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying he is a bad QB. He is a very good QB and has been for basically his whole career. However when it comes to being one of the best football players of all time, I don't think he is because I don't even think he is the best QB. Then to really go back to this thread, I think this season he is definitely overrated, and for his play this year he does not deserve to even be mentioned as one of the top Heisman finalist. I mean any other guy with stats like him, wouldn't even be thought of this year. So I think does qualify him as overrated. I mean you might disagree with me about the career thing, however I don't know how you can disagree with him being overrated this season.

I'm not saying Tebow is overrated but he has had a fantastic supporting cast every single year. That makes him seem a lot better than he actually might be. Great quarterback though especially for that Florida system.

The system quarterback at Florida is making noise tonight.

Darn right you did. Tim Tebow has made some mistakes this season, but I would invite you, or any other that wants to get in on the argument to give me a time-just one-that Tim Tebow's play over the past two seasons has cost Florida a game. Then, go back and give some times that he has won games for them with his play. I guarantee you that there are far more plays he made that the Gators benefitted, as opposed to those that they've suffered from. But he is a winner, I defy anyone to give me a quarterback in college that has ran an offense as masterfully as Tim Tebow has, doing so as efficiently as he has, and doing so producing the results that he has. I'd say you won't find more than you can count on one hand in the entire history of this sport.
