Seriously, these teams AREN'T "bad" - it's just that if you line up the top 10s of previous 3A seasons, this one doesn't measure up too well.

 

The class seems to be more of a "pie crust" class - decent teams up top, but a lot of fluff in the filling...

 

And in comparison to the relative stature of other classes, they don't seem to measure up across the board (winning the games they should; dominating the games they should; competing well when underdogs, etc.)

 

But to say that Central, Belfry, Somerset, etc. are "bad teams" is absurd.

However, I still say that there's not a lot of separation among the top 4 teams in 3A.

And it is bad ... in comparison to last year, the year before and just about any year with schools of this size.

I know, I keep bringing the Litratings into this, but they're fun.

 

6A: Mean = 97.2, Median = 95.2

Compared to previous years' 3A, not compared to other classes. I think if you look at the top 10 teams in 3A, the comparisons to previous years don't quite stack up...

 

Although - that said - the performance of class 3A vs. other classes leaves a bit to be desired this year...

 

But understand, I'm NOT KNOCKING IT! Shoot, if anything, it may make for a much more exciting post-season than usual. I'm not hearing anyone say that anybody in 3A is a lock for anything - and I think that's good.

I would think that recent games should carry a little more weight than earlier games when justifying rankings.:thumb:

 

And while Mason County is still #1 in the hearts of the AP voters, the margin has been dropping and now stands at two points.

About the time I take pride in my team being ranked in the top ten I start reading threads like this. I don't like to admit it but HC did get beat by a touchdown by a team that the #1 2A team beat by 50. I think the top 2 or 3 in every class are generaly a lot better than teams ranked just below. Thank goodness we have a playoff system where most of these things are answered on the field.

At this point in the season I feel Central and Belfry beat anyone in 1A, everyone except Ft. Campbell in 2A, all but the top 4 in 4A and we shall see what Belfrys record is against 4 of the top 15 in 5A after Friday.

 

Sheldon Clark is not as bad as most think due to injuries and suspensions, and Pike Central is a million miles ahead of where they were at to start the season.

 

I agree though that after Belfry and Central 3A is not as good as before and might be tied for the worst class 1-10.

How does the east side shake in the playoffs? IMO Belfry,Mason,Breathitt are fighting for the 1 and only spot for the champioship.
