When the ball is live, the only person that should be in the 2 yard belt is the official and that's it! Typically, the only time a sideline warning or sideline interference is called is when an official runs into or has to go around someone during a play. IMO, if a camera person is in the restricted area when the ball is live, and an official runs into that person, the coach/team who is responsible for maintaining that particular sideline is the responsible party. They should do a better job of making sure that belt is clear. Assign an assistant coach to do the job.

Didnt see this one coming. I watched Cov Cath last week, and I didn't think they could have scored 39 in 4 games after last weeks offensive outing.

If I am not mistaken, the rule is for everyone. It is a safety issue so the refs have room to run up and down the sideline. Most refs allow the coaches to enter this area as long as they don't 'linger' but basically go in and out of the area as they shout instructions.

Didnt see this one coming. I watched Cov Cath last week, and I didn't think they could have scored 39 in 4 games after last weeks offensive outing.

 

Except for last week, they have been putting up 25+ points consistently.

The Coaches are responsible for what goes on during a game on their side of the field no matter who it is.

 

Dixie was warned on the third play of the game to stay behind a rather well marked white line. If the first warning isn't issued when it was, the penalty would not have been called on the TD!

 

I am sure most have seen a holding call that was so far behind the play that it had no baring on the play but never the less, it is a penalty, and in this case it was the Dixie sideline that cost them the TD. Don't blame the ref he is just enforcing the rule...

Coach is responsible for his sideline,whether they are 'officially' part of his team or not. Just like a team can be penalized for unruly fan behavior.

So who exactly is responsible for making sure the guys shooting video and pictures on the sidelines are out of the way of the officials? I work a lot of college games in that capacity, and there is always someone making sure I stay out of the restricted areas that could cause a penalty.

 

While I still don't buy that it was someone with a camera that drew the flag based on the reaction I saw from the Dixie sideline on both big plays (the warning on the early 1st Q play and the flag on the long TD), even if it was that is on Dixie to monitor any way you slice it.

Probably because the Head linesman did not run into anyone!!

 

Is that what the rule says if you run into someone it is a pentaly or does it say you can't be in the area.

 

I would guess the official on that side was a better official and knew it had Zero impact on the plays the KIDS made.

 

If this pentaly was a clip, hold or anything else that made the kid be able to go 90 yards it would be easier to take. But a person taking pictures 35 yards away from the ball come on I think someone just wanted to let everyone know they were there. This rule is stupid, because it is not enforced equally Dixie side was enforced and Cov. Cath side the coaches were in that area all night. I do not begrudge them because the official didn't say anything to them.
