This has been a bad week for referees. With the SEC guys and baseball playoff guys getting beaten up and now this huge call, they are certainly easy targets. They are necessary and half of the calls they make are evil. It's really escalated when their missed calls cost points and games. Like the play not called against the Florida Gators on the TD and non fumble, the Minnesota Twins on the double down the line called foul, and this call, they certainly changed the game. What we will never know is would the outcome have been different. Common sense tells me that there is no way Dixie loses if that TD stands because they would have ended up with 700 yards of offense. No one with 700 yards loses right? Well, I would say the same thing about a team with 615 yards of offense, and somehow Dixie still lost.

If we banned officials for making mistakes we'd have no officials. He'll learn and be better for it. They hate to make mistakes but they do happen.

If I'm a Dixie coach or parent I wouldn't be wasting my time crying about a mistake early in the game. Instead, I'd be challenging my defense to not give up 39 freaking points.

:thumb: They should be worrying about how they beat their next opponent. What's done is done. Really I think I would rather be in Dixie's shoes anyway. Wouldn't you rather be playing in Ft. Thomas in week two than be in Paintsville. Win or loose, long ride home.

What is very interesting about the sidelines is that the players have the best seat in the house. The area marked for the players and coaches is more than adequate for a view of the whole field. I think the distance from the sideline to the designated area is @3 yards. Very prime spot for a sporting event. Yes it is the team's responsibility to manage their sideline. I would even bet that every high school team carries a coaching staff of 10-15 coaches. assign one for the responsibility of your sideline. Hard lesson for Dixie during a great game but if they were warned and did not comply shame on the coaching staff.

I venture to say most HS staffs do not have 10-15 coaches. There are plenty of non D1 colleges that have less than 10 coaches.

The sideline rule was put in place due to an official colliding with someone on the sideline and being injured. It has nothing to do with the players being to close to a play. The old rule allowed the coaches to be in the box (though there was a limit. I think 3) while the players had to remain further back. the new rule states that the box area needs to be clear when a snap could occur until the play is blown dead. It has been a focus point this year. Most officials have been easy to work with on it. The problem is some places (Anderson Co comes to mind) does not have enough space.

Now the penalty was incorrectly enforced. It appears it should have been a penalty. Now I have NO clue why a coach would allow any form of the media in the team area. Now punishing a team for part of the media that is outside of their sideline area is tough. As a coach you can yell at those people all you want but if they do not back up then what do you do as a coach?

NKY (or at least who they assign) are some of the better officials in the state. I do not always get along with some of them but they are good. Louisville has been a little interesting and the Lexington area crews have been rough. Now this is just personal experience so take it for what it is worth.

I have heard the referees are suspended next week.

For any "non-player" penalty, the yards should be marked off after the play. That is the rule. Points should have stood.

That is correct! THAAAANK YOU!!!

Honestly, based on what I have read on this wonderful forum, I don't think that the sideline interference call really impacted the game. If I am not mistaken, that foul occured early in the 3rd quarter and Dixie was leading by one point at the time. IMO, the play that had more of an impact, and the one that nobody is really addressing, was the the illegal participation foul that was called on Dixie for having 12 players on the field during a punt. If I am not mistaken, that extended the drive for CCH and they eventually scored. Which had more impact?

Do you care to elaborate?

A far worse sideline infraction occured during the second half.........

What's going on here? All I see is a potential wedgie for the guy in the wife-beater.

Agree. I would be challenging the CovCath defense the same. They both need a ton of work.

Best I can remember....the last wedgie I got was quite the infraction.

I'm not a coach, I'm not a parent and I'm not crying. It was a bad call and it hurt Dixie. I am done.

I think the 600 yards of offense would make that obvious to most. I'm pretty sure the CCH coaches noticed.

Let me be clear to the posters reading this. I quoted Ga's post but I wasn't calling him out or insinuating he was the one crying. I just grabbed onto his post since it was about officials. Others in this thread are the ones I was referring to.

No way! Why would you want to play the #1 team in the 2nd round when you could otherwise play them in the 3rd round?
