Does anyone have video or link (to YouTube, etc.) of the so-called 'camera guy' penalty? It would make a great post.

The all important video footage... I believe that the cameraman is standing on Cov Caths 35 yd. line right before Dixie scores.

He is clearly standing with his toes on the sideline but I am not sure that changes the argument all that much. Nice to see the film though.

This will bring up the intent of the rule. This is my 2 cents and it's pretty simple. It's to keep the players off of the field so that when there is a sideline play as in a sideline pass that the receiver has room to make the attemped catch etc. and not get interfered with. It may also deter any Woody Hayes type actions as well.

I don't think the intention was to have the players look down at their toes every play.

The flag was thrown about the Dixie 40 yard line well before that camera man. I tried watching close but I couldn't even see the ref running down the side line.

I think both sidelines were quite irrelevant on this play. Let the kids decide the outcome!

I will say one thing......every one of those players were out of the box.

Maybe they were excited. Just a thought.

I have heard the referees are suspended next week.

For any "non-player" penalty, the yards should be marked off after the play. That is the rule. Points should have stood.

I'm sure the Dixie players were excited, and what football team wouldn't be. I guess the only advice other teams may want to consider is it could also happen to you.

They ref's are suspended for a week? Great. Please do not allow this official on your field.

The majority of penalties are unintentional accidents. I do know that the sideline infraction was an area that was supposed to be strictly enforced this year. Most teams have a coach during the game 'roaming' the sidelines making sure everyone stays back.

While this call obviously had an impact on the game, it wasn't the only call that impacted the game. I would offer that all calls have some impact on the game, some more than others. If I had already been warned once on the sideline, I think I would of made sure everyone, and I mean everyone was way behind the line the rest of the game.

Honestly, based on what I have read on this wonderful forum, I don't think that the sideline interference call really impacted the game. If I am not mistaken, that foul occured early in the 3rd quarter and Dixie was leading by one point at the time. IMO, the play that had more of an impact, and the one that nobody is really addressing, was the the illegal participation foul that was called on Dixie for having 12 players on the field during a punt. If I am not mistaken, that extended the drive for CCH and they eventually scored. Which had more impact?

If we banned officials for making mistakes we'd have no officials. He'll learn and be better for it. They hate to make mistakes but they do happen.

If I'm a Dixie coach or parent I wouldn't be wasting my time crying about a mistake early in the game. Instead, I'd be challenging my defense to not give up 39 freaking points.

You are mistaken they didn't score on that drive. So I still say the pentaly that took points off the board when the pentaly was enforced wrong had more impact.

Good point. Everyone is focusing on the sideline infraction when in fact there were many more miscues that also impacted the outcome. Part of it is probably not wanting to admit that maybe the loss was a result of how you performed overall. It is easier to feel that if not for a bad call or something that was supposedly out of your control, you would have won. I think the biggest factor in this game was the number of Dixie kids that went both ways and just ran out of gas at the end.

You make a great point. It isn't why they lost, but it would have been nice to have that TD.
