At some point you have to quit using the SEC as an excuse for being mediocre. :thumb:

It is not an excuse, it is reality. UK has nowhere the support, facilities, tradition, recruits, etc. of most SEC schools. Why will they ever be able to sustain anything for an extended period of time besides mediocrity?

 

I may be in the minority on this, but I feel the cream always rises to the top. Florida, Bama, LSU, USC, etc. They may have a down year or two, or three, but the culture of these programs will not allow them to fall off the face of the map. Just like UK, Kansas, UNC, etc. in basketball. History shows us that most of the traditional "cellar dwellers" will remain as such.

 

The Big East is comprised of 6 teams that have never been traditionally relevant on the college football scene, and 2 schools that were not even in D1 less than 10 years ago. Kudos to all teams that have been able to attain "elite" status, but the road has been much easier. No denying it.

I have to agree with Duece. Sooner or later you have to be at the top of the conference and every 2-3 years be in the confernce title game. I know it is hard to do it every year against the Florida and Bama. But there is no reason that they are in the top 5 year in and year out.

 

 

Just like I say the Cards have to be in the top 3 every year in the Big East and win the Conference once every 3 years. Anything else is unacceptable.

Either way I still say UC wins this game.

While you take pleasure in the Cards failures at this point, I take pleasure in the fact that you have never, nor will ever, experience your program being able to be elite....even if for one season.

 

Ah but UK has been a top 10 team since I have been watching them, ... and at the end of the season. Granted, that was a long time ago, but I have seen it in the mid to late 1970's.

 

However, that did not make them an elite program no more than UL's run make them an elite program. To be elite, IMHO, you have to be a consistent top 10 team. And neither UK or UL have been able to accomplish that feat.

 

I, for one, don't take pleasure in the Card's shortcomings the past few years. I really want them to win every game (except 1) each year. You may take pleasure in believing that UK will never be an elite football program, and you may be right ... but at least they aren't Duke's football program .

 

That being said, ... while I would really like the Cards to win this one, I don't think they have the firepower to score with the Bearcats. In a rivalry game, I think they keep it closer than many think, but I think they fall short.

Very true. It has been a tiny bit hard to watch you die-harders through this decline. Don't get me wrong, I verrrrry rarely cheer for the Cards, but I do feel for you all who have been sticking it out.

It's hard to be just an awful program on the verge of being done away with, to building a legit top 25 program, to watching what Kragthorpe has tore down. UofL was not a "top 10" program. Yeah, they peaked and had a top 10 caliber teams, but they were a legit top 25 program for the better part of a decade. Kragthorpe has ruined it in no time. I don't think a lot of the bandwagon UofL fans really understand the history of the program. Or lack there of.

 

Shows how important coaching is. The only good thing is that getting it back up won't be as hard this time. The facilities, conference, etc. are much better. A good coach could get them back up to competing for the BEAST championship in a couple of years. Hey, that's all I ask, compete for your conference. I'm not delusional. I KNOW this is a basketball state, for both of our programs....:thumb:

It's going to be pretty brutal I have a feeling. That said, I've narrowed my game-watching possibilities down to three of my favorite bars around town and I'm looking forward to living and dying with each play just as I always have... and with a beer in hand.
