October 17, 200916 yr It's not a moment I'm proud of, but I totally lost it in my neighborhood McDonald's today. If you've ever been around me, or know me, you know I have an extreme consideration for people in the service industry. I have thousands of ways to excuse mistakes, etc. Today, I go through the drive-thru, I order an Egg McMuffin meal, a breakfast burrito and a large hot chocolate. The lady repeats my order, and I drive forward. I pay at the window, and the lady is super nice. I drive up to the 2nd window to pickup my food, and the lady hands me my bag with food (which is correct) and a small hot chocolate. I told her I had ordered a large hot chocolate and needed my drink with my meal. She tells me "No". I said, "No?" Then, I repeated my original order. She then tells me I ordered exactly what she gave me. There's a long line, so I said I'd go around. I go inside, wait in line and explain my situation to the counter girl, who tells me she has to get a manager. Then, I repeat my situation to the manager who tells me I got what I ordered. I explained that I understand how mistakes happen, and that I'm willing to just pay for another hot chocolate, but that I want a large one. And I want the drink that goes with my meal. She then tells me she doesn't understand, that I got what I ordered! I ask then, "Do I get a drink with my meal?" And she tells me no, because it's not on the ticket. I explain that I ordered a meal, which I understood comes with a drink. She then says I got a small hot chocolate. I tell her that was separate, and pointed out that it was at the end of my receipt, and that I'd paid an additional $1.99 for it. Now, I want my drink with my meal, and I want to buy a large hot chocolate. She says she doesn't understand, to which I raise my voice, and said "Forget it! I'll just take this! I don't understand what's so hard to understand!" And start walking out. From the time I turned away from the counter, till the door closed behind me, I could hear her loudly saying I needed an attitude adjustment, and that she's not the one with the problem. I was FURIOUS at this point, but I just left. I'm extremely embarrassed that I let myself lose my temper like that. But for the love of Pete?! Was I wrong? Does a drink not come with a meal any longer?
October 17, 200916 yr WOW!!:popcorn::popcorn: FYIW...when the manager made the "attitude" comment I would have turned back around and given her an adjustment!!! :madman::madman:
October 17, 200916 yr Author WOW!!:popcorn::popcorn: FYIW...when the manager made the "attitude" comment I would have turned back around and given her an adjustment!!! :madman::madman: You can attest....have you ever seen me act like that? I'm so embarrassed! For what it's worth, I've been in worse situations as a member of management in a hotel. I've been spit on, had a brief case thrown at me, cussed out....I've NEVER said anything like that to those people. Was I unreasonable in my request, or in what I expected (the drink with my meal and to purchase an additional large hot chocolate in spite of having already paid for a small one)?
October 17, 200916 yr Author Been there. Done that. It is frustrating I can't believe how furious I got. I'm not talking just frustrated, I was FURIOUS!

I wouldn't be embarrassed. She was an idiot along with the other two you encountered. She should have fulfilled your request (as a good manager does) and send you on your merry customer way! You were not unreasonable and I am very proud of you! :ylsuper::ylsuper:
October 17, 200916 yr Many of us have been there when your seemingly simple request are met with either disinterest or lack of interest. On the wrong day it becomes a major ordeal. I once reached out and opened the drive-thru window and made my voice heard after I felt I had sat there too long and no one seemed inclined to help. It happens. You lose it. What I would suggest is you speak/write/email the franchise owner and let him/her know what happened. I would want to know if I was the business owner. If I'm the owner I tell my workers to satisfy the request in this situation without argument even if the worker thinks they are right. Its not worth the negative feeling the customer leaves with. Did you say anything that would get you banned on BGP?

Did you say anything that would get you banned on BGP? No, I only said exactly what I posted above. I did a lot of yelling in my car that contained un-family-friendly language as I drove to Heine Brothers to get my coffee and hot chocolate, thought. In retrospect, I should have gone with my original plan, which was food from DQ and the coffee & HC from Heine Bros. ::bunny: I thought about calling or writing, but I really don't think it would make a difference. I figure they probably don't care about losing one customer (two if you count my daughter). EVERYONE is still going to go to McDonald's. I'm a raindrop in the ocean of McDonald's customers.
October 17, 200916 yr I hope you called corporate and reported her! She needs to be straightened out! As you were walking away from her (to steal a line from Ron White), you should have said, I'm sorry lady, I forgot, you can't fix stupid. What kind of simpleton has trouble understanding what you were telling her? :idunno:
October 17, 200916 yr You know Rockmom I was in your business for years and years and years and I too used to let a lot go that others wouldn't, just because I was in the customer service industry! I must confess as of late, I have been less and less willing to accept poor service as I work hard for my money and I really don't get to eat out as much as I once use to! Because I understand how to please a customer and understand even more so how the company/corporations wants me (the customer) to be treated, it just bugs me when a manager/employee wants to fight me. Do you think either the employee or the manger in question understand how much negative press they are causing their employer for a .25 cent cup of hot cocoa? In these tough economic times, I just can't believe what some managers/employees do, to turn off customers. BTW I would call McDonald's and tell them. You and I both know how many times (at least I have) been called on the carpet form Corp for one of my employees mishandling of a customer!
October 17, 200916 yr I had something similar happen at a McDonald's 2 years ago. I started to have a meltdown, but instead dialed the police and told them I wanted to report a theft at the McDonald's. The officer showed up. I presented my food and compared with my receipt, and the assistant manager was told that if they did not return my money or present me with the proper order, she would be arrested for theft. The proper order was made. THIS is why people sue businesses. When there is no more consideration for the customer, then there is no more consideration for the business.
October 17, 200916 yr That's ashame! I've had more problems with McDonalds than any other chain. I must say you showed a heck of alot more control than I would have done.

Even if the manager believed beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was right what did she gain? Often times in business/customer service you have to chaulk up the loss as an investment in a happy customer.
October 17, 200916 yr The McDonald's in Maysville screws up your order and cheats you on things like this more than any food chain I have visted. One day I got a large Unsweetened Tea and when I went to add sweetner it had a fly floating on top of the drink. I went back around and told the lady at the window and that I simply wanted another. The lady turns and yells there is a fly in this drink with a counter full of people. Point is, McDonalds don't hire rocket scientist!!!!!!:laugh::laugh:
